About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for cleaning eight 18" syphons in the Maxent Levee North at Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge, issued by the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service. The work requires clearing vegetation and unclogging the syphons using hydraulic pipe cleaning, high-velocity jet equipment, and mechanical cleaning methods.
The contractor must provide all labor, materials, and equipment to clean storm syphons and fittings to achieve 95% clearance of debris, roots, and soil deposits. Required equipment includes movable dam-type hydraulic cleaners, high-velocity jet equipment capable of 80 GPM and 1000 PSI with 500 feet of hose, and mechanical bucket machines. The contractor must have minimum 5 years' experience in pipe cleaning and provide references from three similar projects. Water for cleaning is available on site. The work includes both light cleaning (minimal debris) and heavy cleaning (up to 25% pipe height blockage), with all areas to be restored to original or better condition upon completion.

Drawings and as specified herein.
B. Cleaning shall include proper high pressure water jetting, rodding, bucketing, brushing and flushing of syphons.
C. Goal of cleaning is to remove debris, roots, soil deposits, and other blockages to a minimum of 95 percent open. Contractor shall perform pipe cleaning work to an acceptable level.
1.02 RELATED WORK
A. Grubbing and clearing vegetation around the intake and outflow of the syphons.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Contractor shall have a minimum of five years' experience in pipe and underground structure cleaning. Submit a list of at least three customers who have had similar work complete. Furnish trained and qualified technicians with proper experience operating equipment that is being used on this project.

DEFINITIONS
Light Cleaning: Small amounts If debris existing within pipe line and where drain does not require heavy cleaning, as defined below, and that produce little or no debris.
I Heavy Cleaning: Large deposits of debris or heavy root growth existing within sewer line and 1where sewer reaches require debris removal of depths up to 25 percent of pipe height.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 EQUIPMENT
A. Hydraulic Pipe Cleaning Equipment:
L Equipment used shall be of a movable dam type and be constructed so that a portion of the dam may be collapsed at any time during cleaning operation to protect against flooding. Movable dam shall be same diameter as pipe being cleaned and shall provide flexible scraper around outer periphery.
B. High Velocity Jet (Hydro-cleaning) Equipment:
1. Have a minimum of 500 feet or high-pressure hose.
2. Have a selection of two or more velocity nozzles that are capable of producing a scouring action from 15 to 45 degrees in all size lines to be cleaned. Also include a high velocity gun for washing and scouring walls of pipe.
3. Be capable of producing a minimum of 80 gallons per minute flows from a fine spray to a long distance solid stream and delivering up to
1000 psi and be able to carry its own water tank, auxiliary engines, pm4ps, and hydraulically driven hose reel. Have a water tank, auxiliar engines and pumps, and a hydraulically driven hose reel.
4. Have root cutting blades that are hydraulically spun.
5. C. Mechanical Cleaning Equipment
1.Bucket machines shall have sufficient power to perform the work in an efficient manner. Machines shall be belt operated or have an over load device.
I
2. Power rodding machines shall be either sectional or continuous type capable of holding a minimum of 350 feet of rod.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL
A. Cleaning Precautions: During syphon cleaning operations, satisfactory precautions shall be taken in use of cleaning equipment. When hydraulically propelled cleaning tools (which depend upon water pressure to provide their cleaning force) or tools which retard flow.
B. Syphons shall be cleaned using hydraulically propelled, high velocity jet, or mechanically powered equipment. Selection of equipment used shall be based on conditions of syphons at the time the work commences. Equipment and methods selected shall be satisfactory to Refuge Representative. it will be assumed that a major blockage exists and cleaning effort shall be repeated with other types of equipment.
C. Water for syphon cleaning is available on site.
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Selection of cleaning equipment shall be based on conditions of syphons at the time the work commences. Equipment and methods selected shall be acceptable to the Refuge. Acceptance of proposed method of cleaning does not relieve
Contractor of its responsibility to adequately remove dirt, grease, rocks, sand, and other materials and obstructions.
3.03 CLEANING
