About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the removal and replacement of worn parts on a 38,000 pound, 400 HP Fecon masticator, a piece of specialty tracked heavy equipment owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). The required work includes loosening the track tension, removing and replacing track rollers and bearings, and potentially removing and re-attaching the tracks if sufficient slack cannot be gained by loosening the tension. The replacement parts have already been purchased and are in the possession of FWS personnel. The work requires specialized tools and expertise, as not many facilities can perform this type of maintenance on this equipment. This SOW is related to a federal contract opportunity, Solicitation Number 140FS225Q0004, for the Fecon masticator repair at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

FECON MASTICATOR MAINTENANCE
SERVICE REQUEST
This is a request to perform removal and replacement of worn parts from an Agency-owned piece of specialty tracked heavy equipment – a 38,000 pound, 400 HP Fecon masticator. The replacement parts have already been purchased from the equipment manufacturer, and are already in our possession. This type of work requires specialized tools that are unique to this type of equipment. Therefore, not many facilities exist that perform this type of work.
Specifications of the work to be performed are as follows:
• Loosen track tension on both tracks.
• Remove (4) upper track carrier rollers from machine and replace with (4) new rollers, supplied by USFWS personnel.
• Install new hardware (provided) and torque to specs.
• Jack or lift machine and secure with cribbing.
• Remove and replace first and last lower track roller bearing on each side – (4) new rollers and hardware provided by USFWS.
• Install new hardware (provided) and torque to specs.
• Inspect remaining track roller bearings for damage, and replace if necessary.
• If sufficient slack cannot be gained be loosening track tension, the tracks will need to be split and removed; requiring removal of (3) track pad/grousers per side, and removal of track link pins/bolts.
• If tracks are removed – replace pins, bolts, pads, and miscellaneous hardware, re-attach tracks; and torque all bolts to specs.
• Re-tension tracks.
