About this file

This document is a Scope of Work (SOW) for stripping and installing epoxy flooring at the Provincelands Visitor Center Comfort Station in Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, Massachusetts. The project involves removing existing flooring and installing 600 square feet of durable, commercial-grade epoxy flooring designed to enhance aesthetic appeal, durability, and maintenance ease.

The SOW details a comprehensive four-stage process: preparation (site inspection, safety measures, area clearance), stripping existing flooring (mechanical and/or chemical methods), epoxy flooring installation (material selection, priming, mixing, application, and potential non-slip aggregate incorporation), and final touches and cleanup. Key requirements include using high-quality epoxy suitable for high-traffic areas, ensuring proper surface preparation, following manufacturer guidelines for mixing and curing, and conducting a thorough final inspection. The project aims to support the facility's high visitor traffic while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Scope of Work for Stripping and Installing Epoxy Flooring at Provincelands Visitor Center Comfort Station, Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown Massachusetts.

Project Overview

This project involves the stripping of existing flooring and the installation of 600 square feet of durable epoxy flooring at the Provincelands Visitor Center Comfort Station, this upgrade aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal, durability, and ease of maintenance of the facility

A site visit is highly recommended.

1. Preparation

Site Inspection: Assess the existing flooring condition to determine the appropriate stripping methods and materials.

Safety Measures: Ensure that all personnel are equipped with the necessary safety gear (gloves, goggles, masks) and that the area is well-ventilated.

Clear the Area: Remove all movable items from the comfort station floor area and protect fixed installations.

2. Stripping Existing Flooring

Choose Stripping Method:

Mechanical Stripping: If applicable, use a floor stripping machine for efficiency, or manual methods depending on the floor type and adhesive.

Chemical Stripping: Apply appropriate stripping agents to dissolve adhesives or coatings, if necessary, following manufacturer safety guidelines.

Remove Old Flooring: Carefully strip and dispose of the existing flooring material (while recycling where possible).

Surface Preparation: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any residues or debris after stripping.

Repair any damage to the subfloor as needed.

3. Epoxy Flooring Installation

Select Epoxy Material: Choose a high-quality, commercial-grade epoxy suitable for high-traffic areas, considering factors like slip resistance and chemical resistance.

Surface Priming:

Apply a suitable primer to the prepared floor surface to enhance adhesion.

Allow primer to cure according to manufacturer specifications.

Mix and Apply Epoxy:

Properly mix the epoxy resin and hardener following manufacturer instructions.

Pour and spread the epoxy mixture evenly across the 600 square feet, using a squeegee or roller to ensure even coverage.

Add Non-Slip Aggregate (if applicable): If slip resistance is a consideration, incorporate a non-slip aggregate into the epoxy before it cures.

Curing Time: Allow the epoxy to cure as per the manufacturer’s guidelines, typically 24-72 hours, depending on environmental conditions.

4. Final Touches and Cleanup

Inspection: Assess the newly installed flooring to ensure even application and finish quality.

Cleanup: Remove any tools, equipment, and debris from the work area. Dispose of waste materials in accordance with environmental regulations.

Reinstallation of Fixtures: Once the floor is fully cured, reinstall any fixtures or movable items that were removed prior to stripping.

Conclusion

The successful completion of this project will provide the Provincelands Visitor Center Comfort Station with durable and visually appealing flooring solutions that supports the high levels of visitor traffic. Proper planning, execution, and adherence to safety and quality standards will ensure the longevity and functionality of the newly installed epoxy flooring.
