About this file

This is a Statement of Work for the purchase and delivery of one 16-foot cattle guard with associated components to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Carson City facility located at 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, Nevada 89701. The cattle guard must be either one 16 ft x 8 ft unit or two 8 ft x 8 ft units with a U-80 rating, constructed using 2" x 3" x 3/16" rectangular tubing painted yellow. The grate requires five snowplow straps (¼" x 3" wide flat steel straps) welded evenly across the top of the rails, with horse bars installed between rails to prevent horse leg slippage. The deliverable includes one pair of cattleguard wings per BLM specifications painted yellow, one pair of precast reinforced concrete L-shaped bases (either one-piece 16-foot long bases or two pairs of 8-foot long pieces per BLM specifications), and delivery to the specified BLM location. A forklift and operator will be available for unloading, and a 48-hour delivery notice is required.

Attachment 2 provides additional specifications for welded steel cattleguard grids, wings, and precast concrete foundations. Cattleguard grids must include cleanout sections per Standard Detail Drawing 02879-1, use only new materials, and feature torque bars on grids with cold-formed structural steel tubing. All painted surfaces require a lead-free, zinc-rich, rust-inhibitive alkyd metal primer with an oil alkyd-enamel gloss finish in Federal Safety Yellow (color 13655, Fed. Spec. TT-C-595). Wings must be angle-iron end wings per Standard Detail Drawing 02879-4 using new materials and mate to the grid without field modifications. Precast concrete foundations must achieve a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 3,000 psi with a minimum of 6 sacks of cement per cubic yard and maximum 4-inch slump. Reinforcement steel must be 100 percent tied or welded, free of contaminants, and maintain a 3-inch distance from all edges. Concrete placement requires adequate vibration, followed by magnesium-float finishing, steel troweling, and broom texturing. Formwork may be removed after 24 hours with minimum 7-day curing; foundations cannot be transported until concrete reaches 70 percent of design strength. Before government acceptance, concrete must be free of cracks, chipped edges, and honeycombs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION for WELDED STEEL CATTLEGUARDS, FOUNDATIONS and WINGS

The following shall provide additional information not covered in the attached drawings or on the bid solicitation. However, when combined, the bid solicitation, drawings and this information sheet provides the requirements of the Government.

Note: Use caution when reviewing drawing. Each drawing contains details not pertinent to this solicitation.

WELDED STEEL CATTLEGUARD GRIDS

1. Provide cattleguard grids with cleanout sections. See attached Standard Detail Drawing No.

02879-1

2. Only new material shall be used in the fabrication of cattleguard grids.

3. Torque Bars are required on cattleguard grid rails fabricated with cold-formed structural steel tubing (Alternate Rails). Do not weld torque bars on cattleguard grid rails fabricated with “A” Style cap rails.

4. Paint: The prime coat shall be a lead free, zinc-rich, rust-inhibitive alkyd metal primer. The finish coat shall be an oil alkyd-enamel, gloss paint. Color shall be Federal Safety Yellow or match color no. 13655, Fed. Spec. TT-C-595.

WELDED STEEL CATTLEGUARD WINGS

1. Provide Angle-Iron End Wing as designed on Standard Detail Drawing No. 02879-4, Cattleguard

Wings.

2. Only new material shall be used in the fabrication of cattleguard wings.

3. Ensure cattleguard wing mates to the cattleguard grid without field modifications. Fasteners are not required in this solicitation.

4. Paint: The prime coat shall be a lead free, zinc-rich, rust-inhibitive alkyd metal primer. The finish coat shall be an oil alkyd-enamel, gloss paint. Color shall be Federal Safety Yellow or match color no. 13655, Fed. Spec. TT-C-595.

PRECAST CONCRETE CATTLEGUARD FOUNDATIONS

1. Ready-Mixed Concrete: Ready-mixed concrete shall be designed to meet a minimum of a 28-day compressive strength of 3,000 psi; a minimum of 6 sacks of cement per cubic yard; and, a maximum slump of 4-inches.

2. Reinforcement Steel: Use the size and quantity as indicated on the drawings. However, the length shall extend to within 3 inches of each end. The steel reinforcement assembly shall be 100 percent tied or welded. All reinforcement steel shall be free of rust, grease or other

Attachment 2 contaminates. Reinforcement steel supports shall be sized, arranged and tied to prevent movement. Reinforcement assembly shall maintain a 3-inch distance from all edges.

3. Concrete Placement: Concrete shall be adequately vibrated into place to fill voids.

4. Concrete Surface Finishes: The top surface of the concrete shall be given a magnesium-float finish after screeding, followed by steel troweling and finished with a broom texture.

5. Concrete Curing: Formwork may be removed after 24 hours. Keep concrete moist for the first

48 hours. Allow concrete to cure for a minimum of 7 days.

6. Handling and Transportation: Foundations shall not be transported until concrete compressive strength has reached a minimum of 70% of design strength. Protect foundations from load stresses, shock load and excessive vibration.

7. Before acceptance by the Government, concrete shall be free of cracks, chipped edges, and honeycombs.
