About this file

This document is a Salient Characteristics specification sheet for a federal procurement by the USGS Cooperative Research Units in Reston, Virginia, supporting the Ecosystems mission area.

The procurement seeks one utility vehicle (UTV) and one utility trailer to support the Arkansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit's field science program. The UTV will be used to transport graduate students, technicians, and field equipment to remote sampling sites inaccessible by established roads for wildlife community and vegetation sampling across Arkansas. The trailer will transport the UTV between field sites. The UTV must meet the following specifications: 2-4 seats, 650 cc engine displacement, 4-wheel drive capability, length not exceeding 91 inches, and width not exceeding 60 inches. The utility trailer must meet these requirements: minimum 6-foot width and 14-foot length, double axle with four tires, 2-wheel brakes, safety chains, tie downs, driving and brake lights with vehicle connection, spare tire mount, drop-down rear gate/ramp capable of loading and unloading ATVs, towing capacity of at least 2,500 pounds, and front and side rails. The primary purpose is to enable collection of data on wildlife distributions, population dynamics, and habitat associations in remote areas to support more robust biological parameter estimates.

Salient Characteristics

ARCFWRU – One UTV and one trailer

The USGS, Cooperative Research Units in Reston, VA, supporting the Ecosystems mission Area requests the purchase of one utility vehicle (UTV) and a utility trailer for towing the UTV. The primary use is to support the field science program of the Arkansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (ARCFWRU) for sampling wildlife communities and vegetation on public and private lands around the state. The trailer will be used to transport the UTV to field sites around the state, and the UTV will be used to transport graduate students, technicians, and field equipment to and from specific sampling sites that are inaccessible by established road systems. The UTV will make it possible to gather data on wildlife distributions, population dynamics, and habitat associations in areas that would be too remote to access otherwise and thus allow us to develop more robust and accurate estimates of biological parameters.

The UTV must meet or exceed these specifications:

2-4 seats 650 cc engine displacement Capable of 4-wheel drive ATV length ≤ 91 inches ATV width ≤ 60 inches

The utility trailer must meet or exceed these specifications:

Trailer width at least 6 feet Trailer length at least 14 feet Double axel (4 tires) 2-wheel brakes Safety chains Tie downs Driving/brake lights with vehicle connection Spare tire mount Drop-down rear gate/ramp that can be used to drive ATVs on and off the trailer Can support and tow at least 2,500 pounds Front and side rails
