About this file

This is a Statement of Objectives for a liquid handling instrument procurement by the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Plant Science Research Unit in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The agency requires an automated liquid handling instrument designed for constructing Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) libraries in low-volume, high-throughput formats (96-well, 384-well, and 1536-well plates). The instrument must possess a minimum of 16 SBS/ANSI deck positions and include integrated accessories: a gripper, plate shaker, two thermal modules, and a bead cleanup magnet. The device must have a compact footprint not exceeding 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep, with fully enclosed deck and pipetting/dispensing modules. The instrument must perform repeat positive displacement non-contact reagent dispensing across all three plate formats, dispense up to six reagents simultaneously, support sub-microliter volumes (200nL minimum), and accommodate pipetting between 1µL and 125µL. The pipetting module must support both individual tip loading for cherry-picking applications and sets of 96 and 384 tips. Additional capabilities include partial plate processing, compatibility with low dead volume reagent reservoirs, and fully non-contact dispensing technology. The purchase price must include shipping, installation, manufacturer-certified personnel training, and a minimum one-year instrument warranty. The sequencing data generated will support the Plant Science Research Unit's ongoing genetic research into complex plant traits.
