About this file

This is a specification control drawing for electrical cable components used in military communications equipment. The document is a technical specification sheet for a Special Purpose Electrical Cable, 24-1932 AWG, issued by the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, with drawing number A3206001.

The specification defines three types of insulated conductors and detailed mechanical and electrical requirements. Type A consists of twisted pair insulated copper conductors (24-1536 AWG with .58 nominal outer diameter, silver-plated shield with tin-plated copper braid at 90% coverage minimum). Type B comprises two twisted pairs with tin-plated copper conductors (18-1930 AWG, 1.2 nominal outer diameter with red-black and yellow-violet insulation colors). Type C specifies tin-plated copper conductors (20-1932 AWG with .94 nominal outer diameter and orange insulation per MIL-STD-104). Operating temperature range is -55°C to +80°C. The mechanical design includes an extruded PTFE insulation, thermoplastic rubber filler, clear Mylar isolator (.02 inch thick with 50% overlap minimum), tin-plated copper braid shield (36 AWG, 90% coverage, 500 milliohms per meter maximum at 100 MHz), and clear Mylar separator with extruded polyurethane jacket. The materials must meet MIL-C-27500 requirements, be non-hygroscopic, contain no nutrients supporting fungal growth, and the jacket must accommodate a 3-inch pushback. Suggested sources of supply are listed, with identifications per MIL-STD-130 packaging requirements. The drawing was initially released on 12/2/1962 and revised multiple times, with final approval on 12/2/1996.
