About this file

This is a preliminary estimate of quantities detail sheet issued by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Highway Division for Proposal No. 614009-133274 on Interstate 91 in the towns of Deerfield, Hatfield, Whately, and Northampton. The project involves pavement preservation and related work spanning from mile marker 26.9 to mile marker 38.1 on the interstate. The primary work includes fine milling of existing pavement, installation of ultrathin bonded overlay on the mainline (0.75 inches), and Superpave surface course application on interchange ramps (2.25 inches). Key quantities include 65 cubic yards of unclassified excavation and 970 tons of pavement milling mulch for shoulders. The project dated October 30, 2025, encompasses extensive work related to drainage structure adjustment and replacement, guardrail repairs, traffic data collection station installation, pavement crack sealing, and comprehensive pavement markings installation using both painted and recessed methods.

The document outlines numerous line items across multiple work categories including drainage work (Items 220-227.31), pavement milling and overlay (Items 415.2-480.2), guardrail maintenance (Items 632-634.1), and traffic control and signage (Items 819.906-874.41). Notable specifications include maintaining existing profile and cross-slope for proper drainage, tapering overlay depth at paving limits at a rate not exceeding 0.25 inches per 50 feet, and lengthening the acceleration lane for Interchange 32 Northbound to 1,000 feet. Contingency items are included for HMA patching, temporary asphalt patching, and reflectorized drums with warning lights for traffic management. The project note indicates that open-graded friction course removal was completed in spring 2025 for portions of the northbound and southbound lanes, eliminating the need for additional milling in those areas.
