About this file
This document contains a Request for Information (RFI) and the corresponding responses from the contracting agency regarding an opportunity to renovate operating rooms at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical center. The RFI poses questions about drawings and specifications for the project and seeks clarification on items including the composition of masonry walls scheduled for demolition, the need for fireproofing of structural steel, allowable work hours, and logistics regarding equipment to be furnished by the owner and installed by the contractor. The contracting agency provides direct responses to each of the questions, noting that walls should be assumed as grouted solid, all beams will require fireproofing, and work must be performed within the specified timeframes and work hours. Clarification is also provided on contractor responsibilities for mobilizing and transporting owner-furnished equipment.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)
TO: Contracting Specialist
RFI NO.: 1 DATE: Aug 19, 2020 REFERENCE:
REPLY NEEDED BY:
INFORMATION NEEDED:
1. Ref drawing 3-A1-1--- During site walk, masonry walls were noted in some areas scheduled for demolition. Are CMU walls grout filled?
2. Ref drawing 1-S1-2--- Does all 2nd floor structural steel, decking and W8 x 18 structural reinforcing beams at new duct openings require spray fireproofing?
3. Ref drawing 2P1-1 --- Weekend work indicated for all plumbing work in SPS. Drawing 0-A3-1 & 0-A3-2 indicates plaster ceilings within soiled receiving, decontamination, preparation and sterilization areas. Infection control note 4 indicates all work to take place 3pm Friday thru 3pm Saturday which does not leave enough time to perform ceiling demo, piping demo, new piping, ceiling patching and painting? Can all ceilings be removed and left out until all demo is complete and new piping is installed? Can any of this work be done during the weekdays?
4. Ref specification 01 00 00 part 1.5- Working hours are called out from 6:00 PM thru 5:30 AM. With short day light hours during certain times of the year various tasks scheduled for the exterior will have higher safety risks and increased logistical control costs. Will any work be allowed to be done during normal working hours?
5. Ref drawing 2A6-2 & 3A6-3- Certain pieces of equipment are called out to be furnished by owner, installed by contractor such as the Operating Tables. Will the contractor have to mobilize the equipment from a location onsite or will they be at an off-site storage location? What are the weights of surgical lights, perfusion boom, Anesthesia booms operating tables and suction system? Can they be transported to 2nd floor in nearest elevator? Will each piece of equipment have self-contained wheels? Will they require any crating or un-crating?
