STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)

Defiant Motor Magnetics

PR 1300859435

1.0 Background

The purpose of this contract is to fabricate a set of magnetics (stator and rotor) for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport (NUWCDIVNPT). A detailed design of the magnetics has been completed by NUWCDIVNPT. After verifying that the contractor meets fabrication requirements specified below, NUWCDIVNPT will supply mechanical drawings and a specification. The contractor will fabricate the magnetics based on the drawings and specification provided.

2.0 Scope

The contractor shall fabricate four sets of magnetics. The magnetics will be comprised of a potted stator and rotor assembly. Due to high torque density and efficiency requirements, in addition to reduced volume constraints, novel manufacturing processes and material are required.

3.0 Applicable Documents

The contractor shall perform the tasking required in Section 4.0 in accordance with the specifications in section 3.1.

3.1 Specifications

3.1.1 Defiant Motor Magnetics Specification 851903-4110 Rev A

3.1.2 Defiant Motor Drawing Package

851903-4101 ASSY, ROTOR, ROTOR, DEFIANT Rev A 851903-4102 ASSY, LAMINATION, MOTOR, DEFIANT Rev A 851903-4103 ASSY, STATOR, MOTOR, DEFIANT Rev A 851903-4111 BACKIRON, ROTOR, MOTOR, DEFIANT Rev A 851903-4112 LAMINA, MOTOR, DEFIANT Rev A 851903-4113 MAGNET, MOTOR, DEFIANT Rev A

4.0 Technical Requirements

4.1 Develop project plan

The contractor shall develop a project plan describing approach, schedule, delivery, and materials costs.

4.1.1 Deliverables/Schedules

The contractor shall provide a Work Management Plan, in accordance with (CDRL A001: DI-MGMT- 81911).

4.2 Fabrication of stator and rotor

The contractor shall fabricate four sets of magnetics, in accordance with the specification provided in section 3.0. The magnetics will be comprised of a rotor and stator assembly. The specification provides a detailed description of all processes that need to be followed. The drawings supply all necessary dimensions and materials that shall be used in the magnetics fabrication process.

The contractor shall have current capability to produce a stator stack of at least 5.85 inches in diameter and 3.25 inches in length while maintaining tight dimensional tolerances. Magnets shall be constructed of MCEN4471 neodymium iron boron magnets. Each lamination shall be a continuous piece of Arnon-7 Fully-Processed Thin-Gauge Non-Oriented Silicon Steel. Winding end turns shall be kept to a minimum in order to reduce overall system length and weight (goal of 0.6 inches on both forward and aft end turns). The rotor shall have a carbon fiber wrap within the specified air gap. Specifications for dimensions and design requirements are in the documents listed in section 3.1. Successful completion of this effort would result in a completed to specification prototype stator and rotor. Terminal-terminal resistance and inductance measurements shall be made at specified frequencies and shall meet values supplied by NUWCDIVNPT.

4.3 Completion of motor validation testing, and testing report The contractor shall take terminal-terminal resistance and inductance measurements at specified frequencies, and shall meet values supplied by NUWCDIVNPT. The contractor shall provide a report detailing the test conditions and results.

4.3.1 Deliverables/Schedules

The contractor shall provide a Test Report, in accordance with (CDRL A002: DI-NDTI-80809B).

4.4 Delivery of stator, rotor

The contractor shall deliver completed stators and rotors to NUWCDIVNPT.

4.4.1 Deliverables/Schedules

The contractor shall provide four (4) sets of completed stators and rotors, in accordance with the specification provided in section 3.0. Delivery shall occur no later than 30 July 2021.

5.0 Progress Reports

The contractor shall communicate progress to the Government in the form of phone conversations and/or e-mails at least weekly.
