TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
NEW GEARS FOR LOWER MONUMENTAL SPILLWAY REDUCER
1.0 INTENT
The following specifications pertain to the purchase of 8 sets of two (2) spiral bevel/helical type gears to replace existing gears which are installed in the second reducer on the gate hoist of Lower Monumental spillway. Sixteen
(16) gears in total. Replacement gears shall be made to match existing ones so that they can be used as direct replacements in the existing gear reducers.
2.0 SPECIFICATIONS
a. General: The two gears in question are, 1) High Speed Herringbone Pinion Shaft, and 2) High Speed Herringbone Gear. Quantity of 8 each.
b. Replacement High Speed Herringbone Pinon Shaft shall be made with the following characteristics:
- Sykes herringbone
- Diametral pitch (DP) of 6.0
- Pressure angle of 20°
- Helix angle 30°
- Face width of 4.00”
- 15 teeth
- Built in shaft with overall length of 26.75”
- Minimum AGMA quality of 10
- Rated in accordance with AISI/AGMA 2015-1-A01

c. Replacement High Speed Herringbone Gear shall be made with the following characteristics:
- Sykes herringbone
- Diametral pitch (DP) of 6.0
- Pressure angle of 20°
- Helix angle 30°
- Face width of 4.00”
- 105 teeth
- Made to fit existing mate shaft in the reducer
- Minimum AGMA quality of 10
- Rated in accordance with AISI/AGMA 2015-1-A01

d. Gearing: All single gearing shall be made from high strength alloy steel, carburized, hardened, and ground after gear cutting; AISI/AGMA Quality 10 in accordance with AISI/AGMA 2015-1-A01, minimum.
The pinions shall be integrally cut on the pinion shaft.
e. Shafts: Shafts shall be made from high-strength alloy steel and shall be of sufficient size and as indicated to insure rigid alignment. All keyways shall have fillet radii. Keys shall be provided for all shafts. All shafts shall have standard keyways and keys in accordance with ASME B17.1, Class II.
f. Two out of the eight sets of gears are required as soon as possible for immediate repair of spillway gate hoists which are currently out of service. Anticipate two separate deliveries of parts will be required. The remaining sets to be provided by the delivery timeframe in section 6.0 Shipment and Delivery.
3.0 SUBMITTALS
Within 30 calendar days after award of contract, drawings shall be submitted, including part dimensional drawings (outline, details and sections), and material data, showing that the proposed gears meet the requirements of this g4ec9zsn Highlight specification for approval. The drawings shall, at a minimum, show the dimensions, keyways & shaft lengths. The Contractor shall also submit the following information with the detail drawings submittal:
a. Manufacturer's Name
b. Type
c. Model Number
d. Exact Gear Ratio
e. Mechanical Rating - Durability - HP, Specify SAC
f. Mechanical Rating - Strength - HP, Specify SAT
g. Type of Gearing and Heat-Treatment
h. Warranty information
Approval of the material submitted shall in no way relieve the Contractor from the responsibility of complying with the requirements of the specifications as to the suitability and quality of materials and workmanship and the adequacy of the gears.
4.0 PART DRAWINGS
Four (4) complete copies of the part drawings shall be submitted with the gears. The part drawings shall include dimensions (outline, details and sections), catalog cuts, and material data instructions on the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, warranty, a list of recommended spare parts for the gears (if applicable), and recommended maintenance while the gears are in storage. Final as-built drawings of the gears shall also be included with the definition drawings of the gears.
The part drawings shall also include a sheet at the front of the part drawings listing the name, phone number, contact information for the manufacturer. The complete contract award number (as found on the contract Award document) shall also be included.

5.0 WARRANTY
Each of the gears shall be covered by the manufacturer’s standard warranty on all parts, labor, and workmanship from factory defects. The Contractor shall submit the details of the warranty with the detail drawings submittal as specified above.
6.0 SHIPMENT AND DELIVERY
All items shall be delivered FOB to Lower Monumental Lock and Dam within 18 weeks of contract award. The Contractor shall be responsible for packing and shipping the gears in a manner that will ensure undamaged and complete arrival to the Project site. No shipments are allowed other than normal business hours of Monday – Thursday between 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays.
