The Montgomery Point Elevator is located at the Montgomery Point Lock and Dam, in a remote portion of Desha County, Arkansas. Access to the site is by road or river (boat); however, the road becomes inundated at certain river elevations, at which time, access is by boat only. The access road to Montgomery Point Lock and Dam, Benzal Road, is approximately 14 miles of gravel road, and the condition of that road cannot be guaranteed. During times when the road is inundated by water, the Government will provide boat transportation for the Contractor to the site.

The elevator is a Class C3 Freight Elevator. The elevator traverses approximately 130 feet inside the lock and dam control tower structure, servicing eight openings and equipped with Firefighters’ Emergency Operation. The elevator control system is a Thyssen Advanced Control: TAC50 control system. Although the interior of the control tower structure does not become inundated by water, there is very high humidity in the non-conditioned portions of the structure. In addition, the elevator pit has regular seepage, and is equipped with an automatic sump pump to remove water.
