About this file
This document is a Sole Source Justification for Simplified Acquisitions under FAR 8.405-6(b)(2)(i). It justifies limiting a contract for IT Full Maintenance Support Solution to a single brand, specifically Apple/iMac/MacBook Pro products, due to the requirement for compatibility with HUD's existing graphics division equipment and software. The justification cites that HUD currently uses iMacs, MacBook Pros, and a MacPro server, and that other products cannot satisfy HUD's requirements for effectiveness and efficiency. The solicitation for this contract is Number 86614324Q00005 for Computer Graphics Equipment Maintenance, issued by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The justification indicates this is a limited-source procurement precludes the use of similar products.

PURSUANT TO FAR 8.405-6(b)(2)(i)
Instructions for customizing this template:
Language highlighted in green and italicized requires the user to insert text.
1. I have considered the guidance in the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 8.405-6(b)(2)(i) and FAR 8.405-6(b)(3)(i)(A). In accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation 8.405-6(b)(2)(i), I hereby determine that the IT Full Maintenance Support Solution listed in insert purchase request number> is for services of items peculiar to one manufacturer. This brand is essential to the Governments requirements because HUD currently uses iMacs, MacBooks Pros, and a MacPro Server in its graphics division. For effectiveness and efficiency IMAC/Apple/Dos products require compatibility. The contractor must provide IT equipment and software that is compatible with HUD’s existing products. At this time the market indicates other companies’ products cannot satisfy HUD’s requirements.
2. This acquisition is restricted to the following Brand name specifications as outlined in Section 4.0. of the performance work statement.
3. The circumstances of the requirement deem only one brand-name reasonably available due to compatibility requirements.
· The material or service must be compatible in all aspects (form, fit, and function) with existing systems presently installed. The current equipment is iMacs, MacBook Pros, a MacPro server, storage hardware and software, and a local area network (LAN) and the new item/service must coordinate, connect, or interface with the existing system by <insert description of how the new item/service must coordinate or interface>.
4. These items/systems are not supported or connected to the HUD Network.
CERTIFICATION
I certify that statements checked and information provided above are complete and correct to the best of my knowledge. In accordance with FAR 8.4054-6(b)(1), the processing of this limited source justification precludes the use of similar products.
