Text1: The Systematic Entomology Laboratory (SEL) requires Professional Services for a period not to exceed three months from Ms. Jennifer Greenwood. These services are required to process insect specimens from unsorted samples to fully curated and ready for entry into the research stream. These specimens were collected under the auspices of an interagency agreement between SEL and Valles Caldera National Park (VCNP) seeking to understand and document the insect biodiversity of VCNP. The funds to support this contract were transferred from VCNP to SEL for this purpose.

Total Estimated Value = $4,000 Text2: SEL requires the professional support services per the attached Performance Work Statement from a consultant who has a working knowledge of entomological protocols specific to parasitic wasps and the Department of Entomology at the National Museum of Natural History. Ms. Greenwood was trained in the Department of Entomology and she understands the specific safety protocols, personal protective equipment and research stream idiosyncrasies unique to our Department. There were two other individuals that qualified to work on this contract, but one has left for graduate school and the other has secured another contract.

Informal research was done with other researchers in the museum and in the Entomology Department (Matt Buffington, 202-633-4554; Robert Kula, 202-633-4558) about who is local, available, willing to do this type of work AND has the training so can hit the ground running without climbing a learning curve. Other likely local sources with the training and protocol knowledge were contacted earlier this year and are currently unavailable (Spencer Stout: 720-470-6755; George Menze: 954-610-6165) as they are entering graduate school or back with their full time job. Thus, Jennifer Greenwood is the only candidate with the working knowledge of the program and current availability to perform this work.
