About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the relocation of three SSERVI regolith simulant testbeds from Building 503 to Building 267A at NASA Ames Research Center, with a period of performance extending from contract start through October 31, 2026.
The contractor must relocate three testbeds: the Highlands Testbed (HT), a 62'x13'x1' structure containing approximately 22 tons of LHS-2E anorthosite regolith simulant; the Lowlands Testbed (LT), measuring 13'x13'x1.5' with approximately 8 tons of JSC-1A basaltic regolith simulant; and the Deep Testbed (DT), measuring 18'x5'x5' containing approximately 12 tons of anorthosite. The HT and LT require new construction prior to material transfer, with specific requirements including heavy-duty commercial/industrial-grade black matte interior coverings and flat black paint finishes. The DT frame and platform must be moved intact to the N267 Welding Shed with regolith bagged for transport. The contractor is responsible for developing a comprehensive site-specific safety plan compliant with Fed-OSHA and NASA Ames requirements, addressing packaging and loading methods, equipment specifications, weight calculations, transportation routing, dust control, worker protection, and procedures for unexpected spills. Coordination with SSERVI and NASA Ames Office of Protective Services is required to establish the safest route for moving testbeds and materials. No deliverables are specified beyond the physical relocation work itself.

Move SSERVI Regolith Testbeds at NASA Ames Research Center
STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements
1.1. Support the relocation of three SSERVI regolith simulant testbeds from Building 503 to
Building 267A at NASA Ames Research Center. The three testbeds are described below and are named for identification throughout this SOW:
a) Highlands Testbed (HT) – measures approximately 62’x13’x1’ and contains approximately 22 tons of anorthosite regolith simulant called LHS-2E (SDS attached)
b) Lowlands Testbed (LT) - measures approximately 13’x13’x1.5’ and contains approximately 8 tons of basaltic regolith simulant called JSC-1A (SDS attached)
c) Deep Testbed (DT) - measures exactly the same as the current container
(approximately 18’ x 5’ x 5‘) and contains approximately 12 tons of anorthosite
(SDS attached)
Tasks required for these moves are:
• Move the HT testbed from M503 to N267A o Build a new HT in N267A prior to moving the regolith o HT should:
▪ Measure 62’x13’x1’
▪ Provide a continuous heavy-duty, commercial/industrial-grade covering for the inside of testbed frame. Material shall be black with a matte / flat, non-reflective finish. Glossy or visibly reflective finishes are not acceptable.
▪ Top and outside surfaces of the testbed frame should be painted flat black o Collect, package and transport LHS-2E regolith simulant from M503 to N267A abiding by all applicable safety regulations and guidelines
• Move the LT testbed from M503 to N267 o Build a new LT in N267 prior to moving the regolith o LT should:
▪ Measure 13’x13’x1.5’
▪ Entire testbed frame should be painted flat black o Collect, package and transport JSC-1A regolith simulant from M503 to N267A
• Move the DT testbed from M503 to N267 Shed o DT should:
▪ Be emptied of regolith simulant in N503 and bagged for transport.
▪ The existing testbed frame measuring 18’ x 5’ x 5‘ and including platform for the users to stand on should be moved to the N267 Welding Shed.
▪ Packaged regolith simulant should be transported and bags deposited in the same facility. Note bags do not need to be emptied once moved to the new facility.
1.2. The Contractor is responsible for developing a site-specific safety plan and all other required submittals necessary to safely relocate the SSERVI Regolith Testbeds. All submittals shall be prepared in accordance with applicable Fed-OSHA and NASA Ames requirements. The
Contractor shall submit all required submittals to the Government for review and concurrence prior to commencing any work. The plan must include how the Contractor will:
o Safely load, secure, transport, and relocate the regolith simulant. Items to be addressed include:
▪ Method of packaging and loading material for transportation to prevent material release.
▪ Type, size, and capacity of moving equipment.
▪ Weight of equipment with regolith.
▪ Transportation route from M503 to the receiving facility.
▪ Weight distribution and any applicable road/load limitations.
▪ Securement of equipment and containers.
▪ Unloading/offloading procedures.
o Manage the safety of workers moving the regolith simulant
▪ Protection from exposure during loading and transportation.
• Any specialty safety equipment, training or medical testing required is responsibility of the Contractor
▪ Prevention/control of dust generation.
▪ Procedures for unexpected spills or material release.
1.3. Coordinate with SSERVI and NASA Ames Office of Protective Services to establish the safest and most appropriate route for moving the testbeds/materials.
