STATEMENT OF WORK
Description
Objective:
We require a High Temperature/High Pressure Cell For Extreme Condition Analysis with the following capabilities:
1. Can simulate a range of temperatures up to 800C
2. Can simulate a range of pressures from vacuum to the hundreds psi
3. Can take spectroscopic measurements in N-Mid-IR
4. Can take data of solids, liquids, and gases
These capabilities are defined based on the experimental procedures we have in place.
Background:
Our experiment is designed to perform N-Mid-IR spectroscopic studies of solids/liquids/gases at a variety of temperatures and pressures encompassing a wide variety of planetary environments and interstellar regimes. To make these measurements, the temperature and pressures must be simulated in a controlled space allowing for the phase change of the materials. The best way is by using a variable temperature and pressure cell be fit in an FTIR system. The cell proposed here will be used to measure spectroscopic properties of material under a wide variety of temperatures (300C-800C) and pressures (vacuum to 1000 psi). A similar device is currently being used to generate comparable spectroscopic data (Mid-IR) of compounds that are expected atmospheric constituents in Exoplanets and Venus. This data is useful as a direct comparison for mission data characterizing the atmospheres and specifically clouds of these worlds. We intend to use the proposed cell to augment the current measurements, but this device would enable us to make measurements in the NIR, and of liquids, which the current device cannot do.
Deliverables:
Quotation Q-04121 from Specac Inc. meets the scope of our requirements at the best cost and capability/compatibility to NASA and our current experimental setup. The High Temperature/High Pressure Cell For Extreme Condition Analysis will be delivered to B34:C155 at the Hot Environments Lab at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Delivery is 12 weeks after drawing approval.
Place of Performance:
All work will be conducted on-site in Building 34, Room C155, the Hot Environments Lab
Period of Performance:
Award date – immediately after awarded
