About this file

This is a Statement of Work for the acquisition of a flight-qualified imaging subsystem for the TERP RAPTOR 12U CubeSat mission to asteroid Apophis. The contractor shall deliver one flight model monochrome imager with a panchromatic bandpass filter, associated Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), flight software, operating documentation, mechanical and electrical interface documentation, calibration data, and acceptance test results. All hardware must be delivered no later than July 2027.

The imaging subsystem must meet specific technical requirements including a monochrome detector with user-configurable integration time, envelope not exceeding 1U CubeSat volume, mass less than 0.5 kg, signal-to-noise ratio capability of at least 40 under mission operating conditions, and electrical and mechanical interfaces compatible with the TERP RAPTOR spacecraft. The instrument must resolve surface features at spatial scales of 0.5 m/pixel or better to support the mission's science objectives of reconstructing Apophis's global shape, refining its principal dimensions, characterizing meter-scale boulder populations, and assessing crater distributions and surface morphology. The contractor shall provide technical support during instrument acceptance, spacecraft integration, and initial functional verification. Unit testing and integration shall be performed from July 1, 2027 through October 31, 2027 at Building 33 Suite D205B, NASA GSFC.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Purpose / Objective The objective of this procurement is to acquire a flight-qualified imaging subsystem for the TERP RAPTOR 12U CubeSat mission to asteroid Apophis. The imaging subsystem will support the mission's science objectives by acquiring black and white visible-wavelength images during the spacecraft's high-speed flyby of Apophis. The imager shall provide observations sufficient to support reconstruction of Apophis's global shape, refinement of its principal dimensions, characterization of meter-scale boulder populations, and assessment of crater distributions and surface morphology. The instrument shall achieve image quality sufficient to resolve surface features at spatial scales of 0.5 m/pixel or better under the planned mission observing geometry.

2. Scope of Work

This procurement includes the acquisition, delivery, verification, and integration support of a flight-ready imaging subsystem for the TERP RAPTOR mission. Work performed under this procurement includes:

• Delivery of one flight model monochrome imager meeting the technical requirements specified herein.

• Delivery of associated Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) required for functional checkout and integration.

• Delivery of interface documentation, software, calibration information, and user documentation necessary for spacecraft integration and operation.

• Technical support from the contractor during instrument acceptance, spacecraft integration, and initial functional verification.

• Acceptance testing of the delivered hardware to demonstrate compliance with contractual and technical requirements.

• Integration of the imager into the TERP RAPTOR spacecraft by the University of Maryland project team.

• Functional verification and environmental compatibility testing following spacecraft integration.

• Development and validation of image processing and calibration algorithms necessary to support mission science objectives.

3. Technical Requirements and Deliverables

The imaging subsystem shall satisfy the following minimum requirements:

• Flight-qualified imaging unit

• Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE)

• Monochrome detector

• Panchromatic (PAN) bandpass filter

• User-configurable integration time

• Envelope not exceeding 1U CubeSat volume

• Mass less than 0.5 kg

• Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) capability of at least 40 under mission operating conditions

• Electrical and mechanical interfaces compatible with the TERP RAPTOR spacecraft

The contractor shall provide:

• Flight model imager

• EGSE

• Flight software and operating documentation

• Mechanical, electrical, and software interface documentation

• Calibration data and characterization reports

• Acceptance test results

• Delivery of all hardware no later than July 2027

4. Place of Performance B33 Suite D205B, NASA GSFC

5. Period of Performance Unit testing and integration shall be performed July 1st, 2027 through October 31st, 2027.
