About this file
This is a Statement of Work for a 2026 ozonesonde procurement order (PR: 4200940773). NASA requires 120 Science Pump Corporation (SPC) Electrochemical Concentration Cell (ECC) ozonesondes to maintain continuous multi-decadal balloon-borne ozone profile records at two long-term measurement stations: Wallops Island and Natal, Brazil. The ozonesondes are specifically required to ensure consistency with existing station records and compatibility with current ground data collection systems at both locations. The instruments will support satellite validation, ozone and pollution trend analysis, and climate studies.
The instruments will be shipped to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, Maryland, and subsequently distributed to the two ozonesonde stations. Station operators will prepare, launch, and collect data from the ozonesondes, then transmit the data to NASA/GSFC. The period of performance spans approximately one year, with launches scheduled from March 2026 through February 2027. The work will be performed at the Wallops Island and Natal, Brazil, ozonesonde stations, where instruments will be launched on free-flying weather balloons.

STATEMENT OF WORK
2026 Wallops Island and Natal Station SPC Ozonesonde Order
PR: 4200940773
Background The long-term ozonesonde measurement stations at Wallops Island and Natal, Brazil, need to continue their multi-decadal balloon borne ozone profile records for satellite validation, ozone and pollution trends, and climate studies. This requirement is for 120 Science Pump Corporation (SPC) Electrochemical Concentration Cell (ECC) ozonesondes. The SPC ozonesonde is required to ensure consistency with the existing Wallops and Natal records, and compatibility with the ground data collection systems currently in place at both stations.
Scope The operators at the Wallops and Natal stations shall prepare, launch, and collect the data from the SPC ozonesondes, and send the data to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, MD.
These instruments will be shipped to NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, MD, and distributed to the stations thereafter.
Place of Performance This work (launching these instruments on free-flying weather balloons) will be performed at the Wallops Island and Natal, Brazil, ozonesonde stations.
Period of Performance This order represents an approximately one-year supply of SPC ozonesondes to be launched from ~March 2026 to February 2027.
