About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a NASA container cover Request for Quote (RFQ). The document details specific technical requirements for a custom container cover, including key specifications such as:

The container cover must be mounted outside the container, with two containers positioned 30 feet apart, creating a 30x40-foot area with a minimum 12-foot vertical clearance. The vendor has flexibility in construction methods (e.g., cold form red oxide C-channel beams are acceptable) as long as wind load requirements are met. No roof insulation is required, and the frame and cladding should have corrosion-resistant finishes. The structure will require a 3-foot pony wall, with no specific constraints on roof pitch or peak height. The solicitation leaves significant design discretion to the vendor while establishing clear functional parameters for the container cover structure.

Ques ons & Answers

1. Your container cover RFQ came across my desk and I wanted to reach out to see if there were any preliminary drawings available?

No preliminary drawings from NASA. Vendor to provide any required drawings.

2. Would the cover be mounted to the inside or outside of the container?

Mounted to the outside of the container.

3. Do you need the inside space between the containers to be 30 feet or the cover itself to be 30 feet wide?

The two containers will be set 30-feet apart. We require 30-feet of open space (no columns or posts) between the two containers for the en re 40-foot length of the containers.

4. We recommend not going with tube steel due to the wind loads of the area. We would recommend going with cold form red oxide C-channel beams. Is this fine ?

Construc on method is up to vendor as long as it meets wind loads and it remains within budget.

5. How tall do you want the pony wall to be? What pitch on the roof? And what peak height is wanted on the structure?

We need a minimum ver cal clearance of 12-feet with in the 30x40-foot area of canopy coverage. For this I would assume a 3-foot tall pony wall would be sufficient. Pitch and peak height is not constrained by our design

6. Do you want the roof to be insulated ? if so, would you want R13 or R20 No roof insula on is required.

7. Do you want us to Galvalume dip the frame?

Frame should have a corrosion resistant finish. If galvalume dip is the standard op on, then yes.

8. Do you want the cladding and trim painted?

Cladding and trim should have a corrosion resistant finish. If paint is the standard op on, then yes.
