About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirement for prototype RF electronics for the PRobe Mission for Astrophysics (PRIMA), an Astrophysics Probe Explorer mission. The RF team needs a set of components compatible with the X-Microwave rapid prototyping system, including switches, stepped attenuators, amplifiers, equalizers, couplers, transmission lines, and associated electrical and mechanical accessories. The prototype system will support testing and debugging of the candidate flight design for a far-infrared telescope that will operate with over 12,000 kinetic inductance detectors.

The work will be performed at the Goddard Space Flight Center, with a completion deadline of September 15, 2025. NASA requests partial shipments of parts, not to exceed three shipments, instead of waiting for the longest-lead part to be available. The procurement is planned as a sole-source contract to X-MICROWAVE, LLC, under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), with the government determining X-MICROWAVE as the sole provider of these prototype plates.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

The PRobe Mission for Astrophysics (PRIMA) is an Astrophysics Probe Explorer (APEX) mission concept for a far-infrared telescope operating with more than 12,000 kinetic inductance detectors (KIDs) in two instruments. The readout electronics for the KIDs is comprised of high-speed digital electronics that implement a digital spectrometer, as well as radio-frequency (RF) electronics that provide switching between the instruments, power conditioning, and filtering. PRIMA requires prototype RF electronics during its current Phase A study to evaluate the performance of the candidate flight design. The parts being ordered will enable rapid testing and debugging of this design.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The RF team is building a prototype system using components compatible with the X- Microwave rapid prototyping system. The vendor shall provide the set of RF parts listed in the attached spreadsheet, comprised of switches, stepped attenuators, amplifiers, equalizers, couplers, transmission lines, and other associated electrical and mechanical accessories that will be required to complete the prototype PRIMA RF electronics.

3. Place of Performance

The RF system shall be assembled and tested at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

4. Period of Performance

The work is complete when all parts are delivered and no later than 15 September 2025.

The government requests partial shipment of parts (not to exceed three shipments), instead waiting until the longest-lead part is available and delivering in one shipment.
