About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details a procurement for a high-speed camera and associated laser for the System-Agnostic Arc Fault Implementor (SAFDI) testbench at NASA's Glenn Research Center. The equipment will be used to capture detailed mechanics of electric arcs in hybrid-electric aircraft systems, supporting the Revolutionary Vertical Lift Technology (RVLT) project. Specific camera specifications include 128GB memory, 200ns shutter speed, 1024 x 1024 maximum pixel resolution, and frame rates of 64,000 fps at 256 x 256 resolution and 6,400 fps at full resolution. The procurement is for one camera and one laser, with the primary objective of enhancing arc fault testing capabilities by allowing previously invisible electrical phenomena to be captured and analyzed with high-resolution imaging.

STATEMENT OF WORK

High-Speed Camera

1.0 Introduction/Background: The System-Agnostic Arc Fault Implementor (SAFDI) testbench at the Glenn Research Center (GRC) is being used to design DC arc fault detectors for eventual use onbaord hybrid-electric aircraft systems. SAFDI is part of the Revolutionary Vertical Lift Technology (RVLT) project. The RVLT project is exploring multiple technologies that would enable electric or hybrid-electric aircraft, resulting in quieter and more fuel-efficient flight as well as opening new air transportation markets.

SAFDI is expanding its capability to include a high-speed camera as a resource to capture the mechanics of electric arcs, which are not possible with conventional cameras and filters that only capture the blinding light from the arc with poor resolution and no additional insight into the arc process. This procurement is for one (1) camera and one (1) associated laser, which will enhance the lab’s ability to document more accurately the physics behind DC series electric arcs.

2.0 Scope of Work: This procurement is for (1) high-speed camera and associated laser for filming electric arcs which are not visible without specialized equipment.

Specifications include:

- Memory:

o 128GB memory

- Shutter Speed:

o 200ns

- Resolution:

o 1024 x 1024 maximum pixels

- Frame Rate:

o 64,000 fps at 256 x 256 resolution o 6,4000 fps at full resolution (1024 x 1024 pixels)

3.0 Objectives: Enhance the existing capability of the SAFDI testbench to film electric arcs.

This addition will enhance arc fault testing by capturing physical phenomena with high resolution, allowing arc phenomeona to be visible to the human eye.

4.0 Description of the Work/Contractor Tasks: The contractor task consists of providing the camera and laser. No meeting or reviews are expected for this off-the-shelf equipment.

5.0 Deliverables: The deliverable for this procurement is the (1) high-speed camera and associated laser for filming arc phenomenon.
