About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA/GSFC's requirement for designing, developing, and testing gas and liquid extraction module (GLEM) technologies to support future Mars mission objectives. The contractor will collaborate with NASA to define and design breadboard and prototype GLEM technologies, including standalone liquid and/or gas extraction modules that can interface with sample acquisition and analysis systems in laboratory settings. Key responsibilities include down-selecting, fabricating, and testing GLEM technologies to demonstrate functionality with high-ice fraction Mars analog samples, supporting interface with GSFC instrument breadboards like an electrospray ionization mass spectrometer, and analyzing and optimizing GLEM designs.
The work will be performed at the contractor's facility for design, development, and in-house testing, with post-delivery integration, testing, and analysis conducted at NASA/GSFC. The period of performance is from July 15, 2025, through April 30, 2026. The SOW aligns with a sole-source procurement opportunity for Honeybee Robotics LLC to provide mechanical engineering support for the Mars Sample Pre-Processing (SPP) project, with a focus on developing custom mechanical components and GLEM technologies.

STATEMENT OF WORK (Sample)
1. Objective/Requirements NASA/GSFC has a requirement for the design, development, and testing of gas and liquid extraction module (GLEM) technologies in support of future Mars mission technology objectives.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The contractor shall perform the following duties:
• Work with NASA team to define and design breadboard and prototype gas and liquid extraction module (GLEM) technologies including pathfinder standalone liquid and/or gas extraction modules that can interface with breadboard sample acquisition and sample analysis systems available in laboratory setups at Contractor and/or NASA locations.
• Down-select, fabricate, and test a subset of the GLEM technologies in the form of breadboards/prototypes and supporting hardware, to demonstrate functionality of pre-processing high-ice fraction Mars analog samples.
• Support interface of technologies with GSFC-based instrument breadboards such as an electrospray ionization mass spectrometer.
• Analyze, diagnose, debug, and optimize GLEM design(s) and refine hardware for final test verification.
• Work with NASA team to conceptualize approaches for incorporation of GLEM and related technologies in future Mars surface mission and payload architectures.
3. Place of Performance
Contractor facility for design, development, and in-house testing. NASA/GSFC for post-delivery integration, testing, and analysis activities.
4. Period of Performance Contractor support shall be performed July 15, 2025 through April 30, 2026.
