About this file

This document is a Specification for a Cryogenic Thermal Chamber being procured by NASA Glenn Research Center. The chamber must be capable of thermal cycling between -150°C and 200°C using liquid nitrogen, with heating and cooling rates within specified ranges. It must have an internal workspace over 8 inches high, 9 inches wide, and 7 inches deep, with an integrated programmable PID controller and failsafe module.

The related federal contract opportunity is a sole source procurement from Temptronic Corp for a CUSTOM CRYOGENIC THERMAL CHAMBER, under FAR Part 12 and 13 procedures. NASA intends to award a contract to Temptronic Corp, the sole provider of this chamber. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities by 10/10/2024 to potentially compete the requirement, but the government has discretion on whether to compete it.

Specification For Cryogenic Thermal Chamber

Customer: NASA Glenn Research Center – Glen Bigelow, Benjamin Nugent

This Specifications Document is for a cryogenic thermal chamber. The chamber must be capable of:

1. Off the shelf thermal cycling between -150ºC and 200ºC using liquid nitrogen with the capability to cycle to below -170ºC.

2. Heating rate between 22-35ºC/min

3. Cooling rate between 25-100ºC/min

4. Capability to cycle between -110ºC and 200ºC in less than 30 min (Heat from -110ºC to 200ºC and cool back to -110ºC) with a 22psig supply of liquid nitrogen, and less than 6L of liquid nitrogen consumption per cycle.

5. Minimum 4-inch thick insulated wall.

6. Internal workspace greater than 8-inch high x 9-inch wide x 7-inch deep.

7. Internal heater and fan within chamber for heating and maintaining temperature uniformity within chamber.

8. Integrated programmable PID controller with ability to cycle to 4 different temperatures automatically while switching between heating the chamber and cooling the chamber using the liquid nitrogen source.

9. Relay output for switching of an induction heater from a terminal block on the controller.

10. Independent failsafe module on the controller

11. Internal shelf for support of samples or thermal load.
