About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the purchase of a high temperature (1000°C) tube furnace. NASA's Glenn Research Center (GRC) and the HTP Project (ARMD AAVP Program) require this furnace to evaluate thermal properties of materials using a HotDisk TPS3500 thermal constants analyzer. The key requirements are:

  • Capable of handling sample diameters of 75 mm or larger
  • Ability to achieve temperatures up to 1000°C with reproducibility better than 2% and accuracy better than 5%
  • Includes sample holder, 4-wire-connector, and cables compatible with the HotDisk TPS3500 analyzer
  • Capable of operating in vacuum (10-3 mbar), ambient air, and inert environments

This requirement will be procured through a sole source contract with THE EDWARD ORTON JR CERAMIC FOUNDATION under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). Interested organizations may submit their capabilities by 8/1/2024 for the government to determine if a competitive procurement is warranted.

This statement of work is for the purchase of a high temperature (1000°C) tube furnace. NASA GRC and the HTP Project (ARMD AAVP Program) is in need of a high temperature (1000°C) tube furnace with which to evaluate thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat of materials with the

HotDisk TPS3500 thermal constants analyzer hardware. This piece of equipment needs to be a large tube furnace (at least 75 mm in diameter) with the ability to achieve temperature of 1000°C in ambient, inert, and vacuum environments. Gases need to be able to be controlled and flowed through the system and 4-wire connectors for thermal analysis sensors need to be fitted to the chamber with outlets for sensor wires compatible with the HotDisk TPS3500 thermal constants analyzer hardware. This instrument will need to be able to hold at temperature with accuracy better than 5%.

The tube furnace that is required by this purchase must include the following requirements and capabilities:

• Capable of handling sample diameters of 75 mm or larger

• Capability to achieve temperatures up to 1000°C with a reproducibility better than 2% and accuracy better than 5%.

• Must include sample holder, 4-wire-connector, and cables to sensor compatible with the

HotDisk TPS3500 thermal constants analyzer hardware.

• Must include hose and gas system manifold

• Temperature capability of 1000°C in vacuum (10-3 mbar) conditions

• Temperature capability of 1000°C in ambient (air) conditions

• Temperature capability of 1000°C in inert conditions

• System needs to allow for oxidizing, inert, or reducing environments
