About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity. The objective is to design and fabricate a mold for a larger lysis chamber and incorporate it into the automated SPX cartridge for the SimplePrep instrument, to enable the automation of plant microbial nucleic acid extraction for NASA mission goals related to plant disease diagnosis and food safety. The work will be performed by the contracted company, with testing at the Kennedy Space Center. The period of performance is 8 weeks, with delivery of the first article estimated by 6/14/2024.
The related federal contract opportunity is a Special Notice for "Mold design and fabrication to incorporate a larger lysis chamber and liquid storage reservoirs." NASA intends to award a sole-source contract to Claremont BioSolutions LLC under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), as the sole provider of the required mold design and fabrication. The procurement will be for commercial items and services using FAR Part 12 and Part 13 procedures. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities in writing by 3:00 pm CST on 6/13/2024, but the government has sole discretion in determining whether to compete the effort.

STATEMENT OF WORK (PDF #377)
1. Objective/Requirements The design/purchase of this equipment is required for the success of the relative IRAD project to enable further advancement of the automation of plant microbial nucleic acid extraction. The NASA PIs has previously utilized emerged protocols to use technology to extract plant DNA to diagnose plant diseases and access food saftey. The proposed tool development is needed to advance the automation of the plant microbial nucleic acid extraction for future use of NASA mission goals.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The need is for the following duties:
• Design and fabricate mold for larger lysis chamber.
• Incorporate a larger lysis chamber and liquid storage reservoirs on the automated SPX cartridge for use on the SimplePrep instrument for plant pathogen applications at
KSC.
• Provide first article production to be delivered.
3. Place of Performance The design and fabrication of the larger lysis chamber will be performed by the contracted company and testing of the application for plant pathogen diagnosis as well as food safety applications will be conducted at KSC.
4. Period of Performance 8 weeks of collaborations and development and an article is to be delivered (est.)
6/14/2024
