About this file
This statement of work and special notice describe a sole source contract for encoders. NASA/NSSC requires Gurley M2728 encoders specifically designed for motors on a solar concentrator structure. The encoders will provide positional feedback to enable deployment of the concentrator. They must achieve 0.1 degree accuracy with an 8192 count encoder disc and reference marks. Performance will take place at NASA Kennedy Space Center from May 2024 through March 2025 for integrated testing. Interested parties may submit capabilities by March 14, 2024 solely to determine whether competition is warranted, with award planned as a sole source contract to Gurley Precision Instruments.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements These encoders were specifically identified and designed to work with the motors on the solar concentrator structure. These Gurley M2728 encoders will be mounted on the solar concentrator mirror structures. They will provide join positional feedback to enable adequate deployment of the solar concentrator. These are custom flight forward sensors and multiple meetings have gone into identifying this vendor as the optimal choice for encoders.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The encoder specifications to meet 0.1 degrees or better. To accomplish this the encoder should have 8192 quadratures. The disc hub should have unique distance coded reference marks around the disc hub to allow absolute positioning. The encoder should include a read head and disc hub assembly.
3. Place of Performance Engineering Development Laboratory (EDL) (M7-0355) room 1026 at NASA Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, FL.
4. Period of Performance The project shall use these encoders from May 2nd, 2024, on out. These encoders will be installed on a solar concentrator structure in the May and June timeframe and remain on there. The solar concentrator will be utilized for integrated testing until March 2025 and will be tested in other environmental conditions after integrated tests are complete.
