STATEMENT OF WORK (revised 10-May-2023) (AKIRA: DGEN Aeropropulsion Research Turbofan (DART)

Maintenance and Training)

1. Objective/Requirements NASA DGEN Aeropropulsion Research Turbofan (DART) is a vital test article located at Glenn Research Center. The basis of the DART is the AKIRA DGEN380 turbofan engine which requires scheduled heavy maintenance and repair to enable continued safe operations.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs AKIRA shall perform the following duties:

(2.1) Heavy Maintenance and Training

(2.1.A) Perform DGEN380 Heavy Maintenance

• AKIRA shall perform the heavy maintenance at their test facility in Bayonne, France o AKIRA team shall come on NASA site for 2 days to assist in preparing the DGEN380 for shipping.

o AKIRA team shall come on NASA site for 2 days to assist in the engine reinstallation and adjusting operational settings.

• This shall include:

o Full disassembly of DGEN380 o Removal of NASA P3 sensor and replacement with original sensor type.

o Visual inspection o NDE analysis by 3rd of critical parts w/ documentation o Cleaning o Parts replacement (Consumables, etc.)

o New Friction Welded High Speed Turbine Shaft assembly o Full reassembly DGEN380 o Operational validation & tests on AKIRA test bench to check the engine o Conditioning & return to NASA facilities (including the old HPT)

(2.1.B) Provide DGEN380 Maintenance Training to NASA personnel.

• Provide the equivalent of one week of training, at their test facility, to 2-3 NASA personnel, on disassembly, reassembly, inspection, cleaning, and maintenance procedures. This may be separated in to two phases:

o 2-3 days during the disassembly phase (disassembly, inspection, cleaning, etc.)

o 2 days during the reassembly phase o separated by at least one month.

(2.2) High Pressure Turbine (HPT) and Spares/Consumables

(2.2.A) Provide a New Friction Welded High Pressure Turbine (HPT) [Part# 000086-A04] for the DGEN380

• Remove existing DGEN380 HPT and replace with new HPT installed in DGEN380.

• Provide analysis and documentation of AKIRA’s friction weld process.

• Provide material certification sheets for new HPT.

o Note: the new HP Turbine will be guaranteed for a period of one year. (Intervention by NASA personnel on the DGEN380 Turbofan without the express written approval of AKIRA would release AKIRA from all liability and would void the aforementioned warranty)

(2.2.B) Provide following.

• Spares and consumables kit consisting of:

o Four (4) pressure transducers (FADEC: Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Ambient Pressure & P3) o Three (3) temperature sensors (FADEC: Oil Temperature, Fuel Temperature, Ambient Temperature) o Two (2) filters (oil and fuel) o One (1) filter screen (Enclosure 1 scavenge pump)

(2.3) Provide a replacement injector set for the DGEN380 [Part# 001465-A01].

• Injector set to consist of o One (1) combustor chamber o One (1) starting injector o Thirteen (13) main injectors o One (1) Glow Plug

(2.4) Provide 50 hours of technical expertise to support NASA designs.

• may include stress analysis of select DGEN parts modified by NASA

• may include safety analysis of select DGEN parts modified by NASA

• other analysis as jointly agreed by NASA/AKIRA

(2.5) Update Control Devices

(2.5.A) Provide desktop version of DGEN380 documentation.

(2.5.B) Provide DGEN380 control computers.

• Determine if Windows 10 can be safely installed on the DGEN380 control computers.

• Determine if malware protection software can be safely installed on the DGEN380 control computers.

• Provide new computers with Windows 10 and malware protection software for DGEN380 control computers. (Shall NOT be Lenovo or Supermicro brand computers.)

• Verify operation of DGEN380 control computers on NASA DART engine.

• Consult with NASA IT during DGEN380 operational verification at NASA. NASA IT will install malware protection software)

3. Progress Payments AKIRA may invoice

(3.1) 25% of total cost upon NASA receipt of analysis and documentation of AKIRA’s friction weld process described in section (2.1) and documented confirmation of HPT manufacturing commitment by 23-June-2023.

(3.2) 25% of total cost upon AKIRA assisting NASA on-site DGEN380 shipping preparation and with receipt of DGEN380 at AKIRA facility by 30-September-2023.

(3.3) 50% of total cost upon receipt of DGEN380 at NASA facility and operational verification by 30- November-2023.

4. Place of Performance NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, USA

(2-days prior to DGEN380 shipping and 2-days after return of DGEN380 to GRC) AKIRA facility in Bayonne, France.

(All other work described above)

5. Period of Performance Effort shall be performed 01-May through 30-September-2023.
