Questions
1) Is there already a design proposal for the protection system that needs to be validated, or is the requirement to propose a system? Requirement to propose a system.
2) Should the analysis focus only on the main aspect of providing the required protection against lightning strike, or also other aspects such as structural wind loads and feasibility of anchoring to the intended terrain? Solley lightning mitigation. We have simulated several wind turbines where we included all aspects of the environment.
3) Are there any electronics or electrical components (PCBs, Cables, …) to be considered in the analysis? Yes: Programable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Power and Communication Cables, Communication Equipment (Networking and Cameras), Commodity Panels, and Artemis Integrated Vehicle (Orion, Upper Stage, Core Stage, and Solid Rocket Boosters).
4) If cables, how many cables would be relevant, and how many critical wires are typically within those cables ? It is expected that the system protects the fully integrated Mobile Launcher (Mobile Launcher plus Artemis Integrated Vehicle).
5) Does the study represent how the wet ground around the crawlerway support tall towers? No How deep down do the rods have to go to insure good current distribution? Yes
6) The RFQ mentions effects of direct lightning strike, but indirect/near strike and field based coupling can be just as critical. Should those be included as well in the analysis ? Yes
7) Are there any drawings available? Yes, Mobile Launcher base, tower, and integration points to the Artemis Vehicle drawings are available.
