1.0 SCOPE
1.1 Applicability
This document is applicable to work contracted by the Energy Systems Division Pyrotechnics Group (Mail Code: EP) located at NASA-JSC that involves the machining of parts from challenging aerospace materials per NASA drawings.
The typical aerospace materials utilized include, but are not limited to, Inconel 718, MP35N, age hardenable stainless steels such as 15-5PH, 17-4PH, and Custom 450, and ultra-high strength steels such as 4340. This document applies to both development hardware as well as flight hardware.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of this document is to document the technical requirements that must be met for contractors to be placed on the Approved Supplier List for Aerospace Material Machined Parts maintained by the Energy Systems Division/EP at the NASA–JSC. This document will also be used to maintain the Approved Supplier List for Aerospace Material
Machined Parts.
2.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Demonstration of Proficiency
Prospective Suppliers may be included on the Approved Supplier List for Aerospace Material Machined Parts by producing a minimum of three (3) parts per NASA-JSC supplied drawings and an associated Statement of Work to demonstrate proficiency. The allowed demonstration parts are:
A. 2.5” Frangible Nut per drawing SDD26099301
B. 1.5” Frangible Nut per drawing SDH26152102
C. 0.75” Frangible Nut per drawing SDD26099201

The demonstration parts and all associated certifications (i.e. heat treat certifications, tensile test data/certifications, etc.)
will be delivered to NASA-JSC for inspection. A detailed dimensional and workmanship inspection shall be completed by NASA-JSC as well as structural verification tests, hydrostatic pressurization tests, functional tests, etc. as indicated on the detailed drawings.
Successful completion of all applicable drawing requirements will result in inclusion of the prospective supplier on the
Approved Supplier List for Aerospace Material Machined Parts enclosed within this document. At the discretion of
NASA-JSC, resubmissions of failed parts for re-inspection may be allowed.
2.2 Cost
Generally, the prospective Supplier will bear the cost of the demonstration parts and NASA-JSC will bear the cost of the acceptance inspections and tests. However, NASA-JSC, at its sole discretion, may share the production cost and/or supply raw material as deemed appropriate.
