About this file
This document is a capabilities overview of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), detailing facility capabilities and support services available to external users.
JPL offers ten primary facility capability areas spanning space environment simulation, structural and vibration testing, electromagnetic and RF communications, robotics and autonomy, propulsion and fluid systems, power systems and energy storage, avionics and hardware-in-the-loop simulation, optical and instrumentation systems, materials and mechanisms testing, and cleanroom assembly with mission operations support. Representative capabilities include large-scale thermal vacuum chambers, electrodynamic shaker systems, RF anechoic chambers, planetary terrain testbeds, propulsion test stands, solar array testing facilities, avionics integration laboratories, precision optical metrology labs, and end-to-end mission systems testbeds.
Support services encompass facility operations and maintenance, technical engineering and test support, test planning and scheduling, safety and environmental oversight, utilities and infrastructure coordination, security and export-control assistance, data and communications support, systems engineering expertise, fabrication and advanced manufacturing capabilities, prototype development services, and administrative customer coordination. External users receive support for facility access, setup, and operational coordination; technical consultation on test approaches and result interpretation; scheduling and readiness reviews; safety and environmental compliance; infrastructure access including power and communications; assistance with badging and access reviews subject to NASA and JPL security requirements; microfabrication and specialized manufacturing capabilities; and dedicated administrative interfaces for managing approved facility use. All external user support remains subject to availability, authorization, and applicable cost recovery requirements.
