About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) Clarification for an AM0 Solar Simulator. The key requirements are:

The illumination field size must be greater than 21mm x 21mm. The base solar simulator shall match the AM0 spectra per IEC 60904-9 and ASTM-E 927, with +/- 25% per spectral bin. However, it shall be equipped with filtration optics that allow spectral tuning for multijunction space solar cells, enabling irradiance control for each junction of a typical 5-junction space solar cell within +/- 2%. Five filtration optics are required, but the simulator shall be able to house up to 10 or more. Temporal/irradiance stability and Spectral Non-uniformity shall be < +/- 2%. The simulator shall be highly collimated with beam divergence less than 3 degrees. The 5 filtration optics are tailored for current 5-junction space solar cell devices, allowing tuning in the wavelength ranges of 275-600nm, 580-720nm, 727-890nm, 886-1089nm, and 1046-1850nm.

This SOW Clarification is related to a NASA Glenn Research Center solicitation for the purchase of an AM0 Solar Simulator, Solicitation Number 80GRC025PA001.

AM0 Solar Simulator Statement of Work Clarification (Technical)

The illumination field size shall be greater than 21mm x 21mm. The base solar simulator shall match the AM0 spectra according to IEC 60904-9 and ASTM-E 927, which is +/- 25% per spectral bin. However, the base solar simulator shall be equipped with filtration optics that allow spectral tuning for multijunction space solar cells. This shall allow irradiance control for each junction of a typical SOA 5J space solar cell within +/- 2%. Furthermore, 5 filtration optics are required, but the solar simulator shall be able to house up to 10 or more filtration optics.

Temporal/irradiance stability and Spectral Non-uniformity shall be < +/- 2%. Also the solar simulator shall be highly collimated, so beam divergence shall be less than 3O, which also enables use with concentrator optics.

The desired 5 filtration optics are tailored for current SOA 5 junction space solar cell devices which have spectral response within the wavelengths listed below. The filtration optics shall allow tuning in these key wavelengths to allow irradiance control within these 5 wavelengths below.

1. 275 – 600nm

2. 580 – 720nm

3. 727 – 890nm

4. 886 – 1089nm

5. 1046 – 1850nm
