A16 NASA will amend the PWS to exclude Figure 12.
Q17 Reference 1.5.14, is the bird strike requirement for structural modification or the GFE (NAIMS) equipment (ball joints, mirrors)?
A17 The ball-joints and mirrors are existing legacy equipment, and NASA is responsible for their substantiation. However, the contractor shall consider the loads caused by bird strikes to the mirror and/or ball-joint in the design and substantiation of the viewport structure.
Q18 For the purposes of bird strike analysis, will NASA be providing the failure mode for the mirror? (i.e. - at what load will it break away from the camera?)
A18 No failure modes will be provided. For purposes of analysis, assume that the mirror will remain intact.
