About this file

This document is a Sources Sought notice for a Real Time semi-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and digital PCR (dPCR) system bundle. The purpose is to obtain information on the availability and capabilities of qualified sources to potentially meet this requirement for the Infections of the Nervous System Section, INSS lab at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS).

The system must be capable of multiplexed amplification and detection of gene expression to document nucleic acid levels in experimental and clinical samples. Key requirements include: 5-plex detection, single copy sensitivity, low variability, automated end-to-end operation, and 5-year warranty/maintenance. This is not a solicitation, and no award will result from this notice. The government is gathering market research and will determine the appropriate acquisition method. Responses should include the manufacturer's place of origin and small business status.

2. Title: Real Time semi-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) & digital PCR (dPCR)

System or equal

3. Classification Code: 6640 Laboratory Equipment and Supplies

4. NAICS Code: 334516 Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing

5. Size Standard: 1,000 employees

6. Description:

This is a Sources Sought notice. This is NOT a solicitation for proposals, proposal abstracts, or quotations. The purpose of this notice is to obtain information regarding the availability and capability of all qualified sources to perform a potential requirement.

This notice is issued to help determine the availability of qualified companies technically capable of meeting the Government requirement and to determine the method of acquisition, and availability of domestic sources manufactured in the United States in sufficient and reasonably available commercial quantities and of a satisfactory quality. It is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. Responses will not be considered as proposals or quotes. No award will be made as a result of this notice. The Government will NOT be responsible for any costs incurred by the respondents to this notice. This notice is strictly for research and information purposes only.

For equipment/supply requirements, responses must include: (1) the place of manufacturer (i.e. address if supply/equipment is a domestic end product and include country of manufacture), as well as (2) the size status of the manufacturer under the applicable NAICS code (i.e. address Non-Manufacturer Rule).

Background: The Infections of the Nervous System Section, INSS lab has developed sensitive novel assays to measure genomic viral RNAs and their transcriptional activity within biological fluids from individuals with neurodegenerative disease as well as people living with HIV. Our laboratory also frequently performs nucleic acid extractions from experimental samples, followed by quantitation of the expression of a large panel of genes related to neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. The RT-qPCR and dPCR systems will be used for a variety of assays to map the relevant gene expression profiles in healthy and disease states to identify avenues for therapeutic intervention.

Purpose and Objectives: The purpose of this requisition is to purchase a Real Time semi-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and digital PCR (dPCR) system bundle capable of multiplexed amplification and detection of gene expression. These systems will be used to document nucleic acid levels in experimental and clinical samples for the Infections of the Nervous System Section, INSS, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, NINDS.
