About this file

This is a presolicitation synopsis from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) for a Four Wavelength Laser System for Fiber Photometry. The document indicates NICHD intends to award a non-competitive contract to Coherent NA, Inc. for laser components exclusively, as they are the only vendor capable of meeting specific technical specifications for a custom in vivo imaging system. The procurement is classified under NAICS code 334516, with a size standard of 1,000, and is expected to be below the simplified acquisition threshold of $250,000.

The solicitation requires interested parties to submit responses by September 4, 2025, at 9:00 AM Eastern time, referencing solicitation number 75N94025Q00209. Submissions must include a technical proposal, cost-price proposal, period of performance, Unique Entity ID, Taxpayer Identification Number, and business size certification. All offerors must have active System for Award Management (SAM) registration. The document emphasizes that changing from Coherent lasers would cause hardware/software incompatibility, system modification, potential downtime, and disruption to ongoing experimental workflows in critical in vivo imaging studies.

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Title: Four Wavelength Laser System for Fiber Photometry

2. Background Information: The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) laboratory intends to procure laser components exclusively from Coherent, as they are the only vendor capable of meeting the exact technical specifications and compatibility requirements for our custom in vivo imaging system currently in use.

These laser systems are an integral part of our ongoing research infrastructure. Any deviation from the Coherent brand would result in hardware and software incompatibility, requiring significant system modification, potential downtime, and retraining of personnel. Such changes would severely disrupt ongoing experimental workflows and negatively impact the continuity, reliability, and reproducibility of critical in vivo imaging studies.

Coherent lasers are the only known brand that integrate seamlessly with our existing setup, ensuring stable performance, long-term support, and adherence to previously validated research protocols.
