STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)
1.0 TITLE
Follow-on Maintenance Service for Perkin Elmer NexION 350D Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) and its Associated Instrumentation.
2.0 BACKGROUND
The Clinical Pharmacology Program within the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) uses a Perkin Elmer NexION 350D ICP-MS and associated instrumentation for research. The instrument performs analysis and quantification of platinum, contained within anti-cancer drugs, in biological matrices. It is used in support of pharmacokinetic and other pharmacological research studies required in many of the ongoing clinical trials and nonclinical research being conducted within the CCR. The instrument is integral to the work of the Clinical Pharmacology Program and is utilized extensively. As such, a comprehensive preventative maintenance and repair contract is essential for continued operation. The instrument can also detect and quantify trace amounts of any element on the periodic table, making it an invaluable asset to the NCI and NIH. In order for this inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) to function, several other pieces of equipment are needed, including a chiller (to reduce the heat from the super-heated plasma torch), an autosampler (to deliver sample from a prepared tray or tube into the ICP-MS to be analyzed in an automated manner), and a sample prep oven that allows for the digestion of any type of biomaterial (e.g. bone samples) in order to perform elemental analyses.
