1.0 BRAND NAME OR EQUAL

This requirement is for the procurement of a brand name or equal Miltenyi Biotec gentleMACS™ Octo Dissociator with heaters. The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) provision FAR 52.211-6, Brand Name or Equal (AUG 1999) is applicable to this requirement.

1.0 SCOPE

The Vaccine Branch at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR) conducts research that has been focused on the mechanisms of immune regulation in cancer, specifically the role of NKT and Treg cells, which are rare, but essential, subsets of immune cells. The lab routinely uses mouse models to study resident immune cells in lung and cancer metastasis to lung and other organs. These studies require large number of tissues to process in quick, efficient and consistent manner. The lab uses a benchtop dissociator with heaters to facilitate the research. The dissociator is needed to prepare large numbers of single-cell suspensions or thorough homogenization of various tissues, including lung, liver and solid tumor masses, for our studies on COVID-19 and cancer immunity. The lab requires a fully automated benchtop instrument that is equipped with eight individual homogenizing unit (rotor/stator) with built in heating provides efficient and reproducible sample processing in a closed system which is key to isolate high-quality single cell preps. The dissociator currently used by the lab has reached the end of its useful lifecycle and is being decommissioned because it only has two rotors and no heating unit.

The CCR Vaccine Branch requires a new, commercially available benchtop dissociator with heaters to process mouse samples.

The purpose of this requirement is to procure a commercially available, brand name or equal Miltenyi Biotec gentleMACS™ Octo Dissociator with heaters in support of the CCR Vaccine Branch at the National Cancer Institute. The dissociator will provide the flexibility to expand with the lab’s growth and its future application needs.
