Background
USAID considers immunization a core strategy in reducing maternal and child mortality. It collaborates with various global health organizations and governments to establish sustainable health systems that offer comprehensive immunization services. Ethiopia, a priority country for USAID's immunization efforts, has seen a significant decline in child mortality rates since launching its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). However, the country's immunization coverage has decreased since 2020 due to conflicts, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other systemic challenges. These include limited program capacity, coordination issues, and funding constraints, which have hindered immunization efforts and led to disease outbreaks. To combat these challenges, USAID, in partnership with other organizations, is supporting integrated campaigns, catch-up vaccinations, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening Ethiopia's immunization program and expanding vaccine coverage. Within this context, the Senior Immunization Consultant will play a crucial role in providing technical expertise and program support to USAID's Family Health Team in Ethiopia.
