Distinguished Delegates, Representatives and Ladies and Gentlemen, Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, A pleasant good morning to all of you, First of all, let us offer our praise and gratitude to

God Almighty that we are able to assemble here hale and healthy for The Workshop for Stakeholder

Input on USAID Energy Project Design. I am very delighted to be here today to give our remarks.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Ministry of

Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of

Indonesia, allow me to welcome you to the capital city of Jakarta.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to appreciate USAID Indonesia Office for the good collaboration that has been going on for many years. We hope that the good cooperation and cooperation between USAID and

Indonesia will be continuously supported for the years to come.

Ladies and gentlemen, As we all know, that one of our key commitment on energy and electricity provision to our society is a strong effort in mitigating the effect of climate change and global warming. Indonesia is committed to support the target of keeping the temperature rise well below 2 Degree Celsius.

Climate experts agree that three main factors that can reduce global warming in regards to energy utilization, namely: energy efficiency, renewable energy and deep carbonization effort or carbon capture and storage.

In our electricity provision planning, we have implemented Ultra Super Critical Power Plant with

1000MW Capacity and this marks a new era of high efficiency power generation and planning.

Furthermore, we also need to improve our system planning to build a reliable power system that corresponds exactly with existing load points that can respond quickly to emergency situations. In accordance with a good system planning, we also need to start planning the electrical system for our new capital city.

Ladies and gentlemen, The application of Renewable Energy is our government priority in accordance with COP 21

Year 2016. The government is targeting 23% renewables in the energy mix by 2025 and 29% emission reduction by 2030. The United States and

Indonesia are the two largest geothermal potential countries in the world. In renewable energy cooperation, we need continuous efforts to reduce

RE production costs to be equivalent to coal.

In the planning of new capital city is expected that the energy sources used will come from RE, by supporting the vision of 100RE2025 (100 percent of RE by 2025).

In line with the spirit of the Global Climate, Indonesia introduced the EV regulation Presidential

Decree 55 of 2019. With a population of 250 million people, the population of motorbike reaches more than 130 million, penetration and application of EV, especially motorbike, will bring wider benefits and release dependence on fuel subsidies. Indonesia's vision for EV is 30EV2030 (thirty percent EV by

2030).

Ladies and gentlemen, The final challenge is the application of carbon capture in power generation facilities will greatly assist efforts to reduce global warming. The high cost of CCS can be dealt with by a combination of

CCUS for oil field EOR or dry ice production that fisherman need for cold storage or marine research.

I’m confident that this meeting will bring a fruitful and tangible outcomes to support Indonesia in achieving Indonesian energy targets.

Thank you.

Senda Hurmuzan Kanam Deputy Director for Electricity Cooperation Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources
