TECHNICAL SERVICES FOR REFRIGERANT INSPECTION AND REPAIR
1. Background. Ship’s Crew cannot identify refrigerant leak in A/C system; leak is known to be present due to constant and expedited loss of refrigerant. Crew is recharging the reefer units on a weekly basis. #1 Reefer unit short-cycled and self-secured due to loss of refrigerant on 16APR18. Upon finding condition, SF drew down system refrigerant so that both #1 and #2 Reefer units each with 60 lbs. SF then restarted #1 Reefer. On 20APR, #1 reefer short cycled and self-secured again with no refrigerant. SF started #2 Reefer unit and discovered 80 lbs of refrigerant in the system. SF troubleshooting indicates possible failed cross-connect valve, which may be allowing refrigerant to migrate between #1 and #2 reefer units. 40 lbs of refrigerant was lost from the system in 4 days. Troubleshooting discovered an oil leak on the equalizing stop valve indicating a possible refrigerant leak.
