Environmental Survey Repair HVAC & Roof Bldg. 63
U.S. Coast Guard Support Center Elizabeth City Elizabeth City, NC
Task Order Number: HSCG83-17-J-PCR122 Design P/N: 9169967
Construction P/N: 7634803
On Thursday 20 July 2017, Johnson-McAdams conducted a limited asbestos and lead survey of Building 63 at USCG Support Center Elizabeth City. The following are the findings of the environmental surveys:
Lead-based Paint Coating
The lead-based paint coatings survey was limited to deteriorated/peeling coatings that would be affected by the work of this project, and would have to be abated to perform the work. The investigation did not find any coated surfaces that are likely to be affected by the work that were detreated and peeling.
Therefore, no paint coatings were sampled for analysis. A note will be provided in the Construction Documents for this project that tells the Construction Contractor to assume that all existing paint coatings contain some level of lead and to protect workers as required by OSHA during disturbance of the paint coatings. The notes will also state that it is not the intent of this project to provide abatement of lead-based paints and that existing construction to be demolished and disposed of can be disposed as normal construction waste with the coatings intact.
Asbestos-Containing Building Materials (ACBM)
A limited ACBM survey was conducted of existing materials that are likely to be affected by the work of this project. No suspect materials were noted or sampled. No destructive testing was conducted on the roofing system of the building due to warranty issues and possibility of leaks. Due to the age of the roofing system it is not likely that its materials contain asbestos. No suspect ACBMs were noted regarding mechanical and interior systems of Building 63 that are likely to be affected by the work.
