About this file
This file is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document related to the USCGC COBIA Drydocking Availability. The document addresses technical clarifications regarding vessel specifications and operational procedures for the drydocking project.
Regarding vessel air draft, the document clarifies that the mast cannot be lowered but can be removed via crane through flanged connections on the pilothouse top. The design waterline to pilothouse top distance is approximately 7,766 mm (25.5 feet) per referenced drawings. Additional equipment mounted on or extending above the pilothouse—including radar, spotlight, and antennas—creates additional height interference beyond the pilothouse structure. The mast assembly height from pilothouse top to antenna foundation is approximately 6,246 mm (20.5 feet), excluding antenna components, as documented in the vessel's detailed technical drawings. For operational planning, the document confirms the USCGC COBIA will be positioned in drydock position 2 during the Fiscal Year 2026 drydocking availability. This information is critical for contractors planning facility utilization, equipment access, and scheduling during the maintenance period.

Work Item 13 Q: Can the government provide the air draft from the waterline with the mast lowered?
A: The mast cannot be lowered, but it can be removed with a crane via its flanged connections on top of the pilothouse. The distance from the design waterline to the top of the pilothouse is approximately 7,766 mm (~25.5’) per Elevation 43-C of DWG 87 WPB 171-001 MAST DETAILS.
However, there are instruments on top of the pilothouse or extending above the pilothouse such as a radar, spotlight, and antennas. The interferences with height extending beyond the top of the pilothouse can be seen in DWG 87-WPB_601_001 OUTBOARD PROFILE & GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS.
For mast dimensions specifically: The total height from the top of the pilothouse to the antenna foundation is approximately 6246mm (20.5’) excluding the antenna according to observations made from DWG 87 WPB 171-001 MAST DETAILS.
Work Item 36 Q: Which docking position will be used for this availability?
A: The cutter will be drydocked in position 2.
