About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding work items for the solicitation to provide dock-side repair services for the USCGC VENTUROUS in fiscal year 2023. The solicitation requires the jack water and lube oil heat exchangers to be sent off the cutter for overhaul due to a history of issues with completing this work in place. Temporary access cuts are authorized to remove the components, with the best location near the boiler in the freeboard or through the auxiliary shop and up the ladderwell. The 6,070 gallon diesel oil tank must be cleaned and transferred off the cutter as interference requires the tank to be handled by the vendor to facilitate low suction and sludge removal. The solicitation is identified as number 70Z08023QMECP0010 and is issued by the Department of Homeland Security United States Coast Guard for dock-side repair services for the USCGC VENTUROUS in the upcoming fiscal year.

VENTUROUS DS FY-23 Q & A
- 1. For the Jacket Water and Lube Oil Heat Exchangers, can they be overhauled in place?
Answer: We’ll definitely work with the cutter to get that tank to low suction if possible
(not sure what the liquid load will be, DS will be during hurricane season and the cutter must maintain specific fuel capacity)..
- 2. For work item 28 – interference of diesel oil tank requires to be cleaned – with the capacity of 6,070 Gallon, will the diesel be transferred with Vendor to tackle low suction and sludge etc?
Answer: The JW and LO heat exchangers they MUST be sent out, specifically required per the spec, there is a history of issues with these being done in place and it is now prohibited to complete in situ. To remove a temp access cut is authorized (best spot is near the boiler in the freeboard), or it is possible to go aft thru the Aux shop and up the ladderwell (less intrusive and fewer interferences).
