TITLE: Fuel Root Valves, Renew

QUESTION 2:

Wording of paragraphs 1.1, 3.3, and 3.4 are in conflict.

Is the intent of the government that new valves be installed or that valve internals be re-newed?

Answer 2:

The intent is to renew all VALVES. 1.1, 3.3 and 3.4 should read:

1.1 Intent. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to renew the designated fuel valves in Table 1.

3.3 Renewal. The Contractor shall renew all designated valves with commercial-standard type valve, conforming to the applicable standard listed in Table 2 (Valve Standards). New valves shall be equivalent (including identical material) to the valves being renewed.

3.4 Valve installation. Upon completion of all authorized work, the Contractor shall accomplish the following:

• Remove and dispose of all blank flanges and associated gaskets, or caps.

• Install all new valves with new gaskets. Renew all gaskets with spiral wound metallic gaskets conforming to MIL-G-24716A.

• Renew all valve label plates.

• Renew all bolting hardware.

• Prepare and touch-up coat all new and disturbed surfaces to match existing adjacent surfaces in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6310, Appendix B (Cutter and Boat Interior Painting Systems).

Compressed Air Receivers and System Valves (All), Clean, Inspect, Hydro and Lift

QUESTION 3:

Work item 33, paragraph 3.5 , 3.6, 3.8 and subparagraphs include reference to valves and valve repairs.

There are no valves identified to be repaired in the work item.

Please confirm that there are no valves required to be repaired.

Answer #3: There are no identified valves to be repaired or renewed yet. When the valves get tested and inspected, if a valve fails or is found in a very bad condition, then a CFR / CR will be submitted for repair or replacement of the valve, and funding will be added for this.

* Please don’t get confused with 3.4 Contractor’s option for valve renewal, this only applies if the contractor does not want to test the valves and elects to replace them right away. This would be at no additional cost to the Government.*
