1.0 General
1.1 Background
The United States Coast Guard (USCG) operates Tug Technologies MX-4 and MZ electric aircraft tow tractors at Air Stations for moving USCG aircraft and support equipment. The USCG received sixty-two (62) tow tractors over the course of three years. The USCG Air Stations have performed organic maintenance, preventive, and periodic scheduled inspections to continuously operate the tow tractors. The battery assemblies are reaching the end of their service life cycle.
2.0 Requirements
2.1 Industrial Batteries
The contractor shall provide Industrial Batteries ready for installation on Tug Technologies MX-4 and MZ electric aircraft tow tractors, serviced, and shipped to the various Air Station locations in accordance with the Delivery Schedule – Attachment 1.
2.1.1 Battery Specifications – 40 cell; 80 volt; 500 amp hour; KWH: 38.74, Dimensions: 35
11/16” x 25 5/16” x 31 7/16” w/c, Service Weight: 3,753 lbs., Cable Position: A, Cable Length: 24", Connector Type: SB350, IST 9059, 1/0 AWG.
2.1.2 As stated in 2.1.1, the current battery assembly in use by the USCG is 35-11/16” wide x 25-
5/16” deep x 31-7/16” tall. The actual TUG compartment opening is 27-1/4” x 36-11/16”. Currently there are 2 poly shims located on each side of the battery assembly. These shims keep the battery assembly from moving and coming into contact with the TUG frame. The battery assembly cannot touch the TUG frame. The USCG will consider a battery assembly that is ¼” larger or smaller than the depth or width of the current battery assembly being used. The battery assembly height cannot exceed 33 inches.
2.1.3 The contractor shall provide poly shims with each battery assembly that is larger or smaller than the dimensions specified in 2.1.2. The USCG will install the contractor provided poly shims.
2.2 Battery Watering System
The contractor shall provide a 40 Cell Battery Watering System compatible with the Industrial
Battery Assembly in section 2.1. The 40 Cell Battery Watering System shall be installed on each of the Industrial Batteries prior to the battery assembly shipment.
2.3 Spent Battery Disposal and Trade-In Values
The contractor shall recycle/dispose of reclaimed materials from the spent USCG batteries. The location for the recycling of reclaimed materials shall be at the contractor’s choosing.
2.3.1 The contractor’s total pricing for each new battery assembly includes the spent battery trade-in value (scrap value) for each USCG spent battery and the associated shipping costs from the various Air Station locations to the contractor’s desired location.
2.4 Warranty
The USCG will require the contractor will provide, at a minimum, a five (5) year warranty for the battery cells and battery performance for each of the battery assemblies. The warranty shall begin once the USCG takes delivery and acceptance of the battery assembly.
2.5 Delivery Requirements
The following table shows the required delivery for each priced Line Item listed in the schedule.
