About this file
This is a Proposed Sole Source Purchase Form submitted by the University of New Mexico (UNM) Purchasing Department for the acquisition of an in vivo imaging system (IVIS) from Revvity Health Sciences Inc. The IVIS is a machine designed to image small rodents for scientific experiments and will be used by the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. The request was submitted on August 18, 2026, with the desired contract period beginning July 31, 2026. The quotation from the vendor is valid through August 28, 2026. Per New Mexico Procurement law, the completed sole source form will be posted on the UNM Sunshine Portal and the State of New Mexico Procurement website for 30 days prior to purchase, as the contract amount exceeds $60,000.
The proposed purchase price is $158,243.22 from Revvity Health Sciences Inc., located at 68 Elm St, Hopkinton, MA 01748. UNM justifies the sole source procurement based on compatibility requirements with existing equipment and data comparability needs. The current IVIS is obsolete due to age and inability to repair key components. UNM conducted extensive due diligence, including internet searches and contact with other providers, and identified only two companies manufacturing in vivo imaging systems: Revvity and Spectral Instruments. Spectral Instruments was determined unable to satisfy requirements because it uses different software and illumination sources. The requested machine's unique luciferase-imaging capability and analysis software are essential for longitudinal studies and infectious pathogen imaging, with data not comparable to systems produced by competing manufacturers.

Buyer Team - See Commodity list at http://purchase.unm.edu/department-information/comm-code-listing.pdf Provide a basic description of goods/services to be provided:
The item is an in vivo imaging system (IVIS). It is a machine that can image small rodents for scientific experiments.
Why is this purchase needed?
The current IVIS that we have been using is now obsolete because of it’s age and the lack of ability to repair key components. We are purchasing a new machine.
II. BASIS FOR SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT. CHOOSE APPLICABLE BOX(ES) AND
PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, AS REQUESTED:
☐ Proprietary item, technology or service only available from the proposed vendor. (Check box and describe proprietary component) http://purchase.unm.edu/department-information/comm-code-listing.pdf
☒ Compatibility requirement with existing item, technology or service. (Check box and describe compatibility requirement)
This machine is from the same company that makes our current, obsolete machine. Purchasing a machine from another company would make it impossible to compare our current data to new data. For this reason, we need to purchase from the same company that generates the exact same type of data.
☐ Renewal of support/maintenance/subscription of software, technology or other intellectual property. (Check box and describe)
☐ Other Basis for Sole Source: Please describe below:
III. SUPPLEMENTAL DETAILS. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AS
REQUESTED BELOW:
Describe in detail the unique capabilities of the proposed vendor’s goods/service and/or personnel performing the work and why this constitutes the only source. Focus on what is unique about the goods/service and why no other vendor could meet your needs.
The machine allows for imaging of small rodents over longitudinal studies and following infection. It can image mice that have been infected with luciferase-expressing pathogens and has analysis software that allows quantitation of luminescence, which is a unique system. The software and machine produce data that is not comparable to data produced by other company’s machines.
Describe the due diligence made to locate other possible sources including communications with other universities, communications with similar providers, web searches, yellow page searches, review of advertisements and trade publications, etc.
We did extensive internet searches in google to examine other possible in vivo imaging system options. This machine is the only one with all capabilities we required for in vivo imaging of small rodents. There are only 2 companies we could find that made in vivo imaging systems: Revvity and Spectral Instruments.
List the other vendors who were contacted. Please describe the specs/qualifications/criteria that the other vendors were unable to satisfy.
Spectral Instruments – uses a different software and illumination source
