About this file

This notice synopsizes a sole source procurement for weather radio maintenance and tower space services. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration intends to solicit and negotiate solely with Alabama Public Television to provide continued support of weather radio equipment located on APT's communication towers across the state of Alabama. The towers are strategically located to maximize broadcast coverage of the National Weather Service's weather radio network throughout most of the state. The proposed period of performance is from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2025, with four optional one-year extensions. Interested parties may identify their capability to respond by August 27, 2020. However, the government retains sole discretion to conduct a competitive procurement and anticipates awarding a sole source contract to the incumbent, Alabama Public Television, due to its ownership of the required tower properties.

maximize its network of NWR broadcast coverage throughout a large portion of the state of Alabama.

These towers are located mostly in remote areas and provide an additional advantage for both above mean sea level and telecommunication line of sight perspectives. It is estimated that over 98 percent or more of the people of Alabama are within the service area of a NWR transmitter.
