Questions and Answers during Advertisement for CO FLAP SUM 91(1) Fremont Pass Trail

October 4, 2019

Questions Answers 1 Please clarify the following

There is no diameter size mentioned in the drawings or the specs for the 2 x 2 WWF for the Pedestrian Overpass?

In the specifications there is Mix Design Specs for 3000psi mix, but drawings call for Class A and C to be a 4500psi mix? Please clarify and include Mix Design specs.

Regarding WWF for pedestrian overpass. The size is designed by the fabricator along with the rest of the bridge.

Mix specifications for structural concrete is shown in both the general notes (sheet S14) for the bridge and the 555 SCR and is listed as 4500 psi for both class A(AE) and C. Additional requirements can be found in the FP-14, section

552. The 3000 psi mix specified in the SCR’s is for 601 minor concrete, which is used elsewhere on the project.

2 Sheet RG3117 - F , the detail titled "Timber support bracket detail" shows the pier diameter to be 2-7/8" diameter x 0.203". This, as far as I have found, is the only place where it mentions the pier shaft size.

Is it acceptable to use solid square shaft. 1-1/2" x 1-1/2"? Which would easily fall within the load parameters.

Engineers at a helical pile supply company are providing an alternate with a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 1/4" square tube.

These tubular piers are also well within the load parameters (rated to 70,000 pounds).

Will these tubular pier shafts work for the project?

This dimension has been deleted from this detail in the last addendum. It is the contractor’s design that will determine the diameter of the shaft.
