DME Tilt-Down Pole Replacement Questions and Responses

1. Is the gravel only to be added in the area around the DME foundation and bollard area?

FAA Response: Yes, cover only the plot area where construction took place.

2. The elevation of the top of the new DME foundation is not listed is there a specific elevation for the top of the foundation and for the top of the new DME conduit pole.

FAA Response: Foundation is to be constructed as shown in drawings and placed in exact location where current foundation, to be demolished, is located. Additionally, current antenna adapter height shall be the same height as new bell shaped fitting (see attached image)

3. Can the portable toilet be delivered to the worksite near the DME pole and be left there for the duration of the project?

FAA Response: Yes, you would have to coordinate with SSC, airport and RE prior. The SSC does not have an issue with a portable toilet being placed on the opposite side of the Localizer building away from the antenna array.

4. Are there any known conduits that run through the existing foundation for the DME tilt down pole?

FAA Response: Not that we know of. See image labeled “Routing of Antenna Cables”. This image is included in new drawing set and shows current conduit configuration.

5. Spec section 1A.1 Para d. identifies that the contractor’s badges have to be acquired 2 months prior to construction. If everything is set to go prior to the two month window, can construction start? How long does the badging process take?

FAA Response: Badging normally takes about a week but each site may vary. The phone number provided in that section will provide an accurate estimate; 956-430-8601. Process is as follows:

a. Applications are turned in

b. Airport submits application and waits for security background check to come back. This takes at least three business days.

c. Once approved each personnel must take a training class at the airport that is only offered on Wednesday’s.

6. Spec section 1A.2 list that there is no material that is provided by the government, but the drawings identify that the ½” coax is to be furnished by the FAA, and the DME antenna is to be reused. Which is correct?

FAA Response: Revised specs are included to show that the contractor shall furnish the ½” coax and the DME is to be reused.
