Mowing and String trimming Statement of Work
Introduction The Volpe Center operates the Aviation Weather Research Facility (AWRF) located in Joint Base Cape Cod, Sandwich, Massachusetts. There are several active projects at the AWRF currently supporting both DOT-OST-R and FAA. The AWRF supports Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) work in support of DOT OST-R. There the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has the FD70 Testing Phase II validation effort ongoing.
In order to maintain accessibility to the field installations, the facility requires mowing and landscaping from May to October each year. The Figures Document shows the area to be maintained, the majority of it being a 3,000 foot by 80 foot strip that is used as a simulated runway for testing. The majority of the area can be cut with mowers; however, a few areas have equipment and structures which will need to be cleared with a string trimer. A 25-30 foot distance between all infrastructure and the edge of the un-mowed section shall be kept.
Scope of Work The Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, tools, fuel, and materials necessary for the services described under Tasks 1-5 below.
It is the responsibility of the contractor to dispose of any materials properly and in keeping with environmental requirements.
The site is located on Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program (NHESP) protected land. No mowing or vehicle travel over the unmaintained grass areas is permitted from May 15 through July 31. A 30-ft perimeter may be mowed around equipment and/or facilities. All precautions will be taken to avoid the protected grassland area if nesting is in the area. Prior to the first mowing Volpe will conduct a site survey with the contractor who wins the award to clarify the sensitive wildlife areas and areas to be mowed.
