Water Tank Truck Questions and Answers, 22 July 2016

Q: Does IBWC prefer a steel tank that is lined or a stainless steel tank.

A: The tank shall be stainless steel.

Q: The vehicle bid would be an International 7500 6X6 with Cummins ISL at 350 or 380 H.P and Allison 6 speed automatic.

If you prefer more horsepower I can bid an HX620 with a Cummins ISX at 450 H.P. and Allison automatic.

A: There is no vehicle preference, however the minimum Horsepower shall be 350 HP.

Q: Eight water release nozzles (Two nozzles per equipment side) Are you intending the Equipment to be configured as follows

Two Front sprays

Two duck bill Side sprays

Two 1-1/2 gated side discharges

Two Rear sprays

A: This is the only configuration we can accept since the nozzle sizing and type are specific to what side of the truck they are mounted to.

Q: The bid for a 4000 gallon water truck you ask for 4X4 capable and Kevlar reinforced tires.

Due to weight of water and body the truck will have to be a 6X6 with a 64,000 lb. or 66,000 lb. GVWR

A: A 6x6 is acceptable, we do not have a weight preference.

Q: I have had requests for Kevlar reinforced tires and have not been able to get them in any size for a truck.

A: The requirement for the tires to be Kevlar is removed.

Q: Are you intending for the unit to be a 6x6 since it will require a 3 axle truck or are you intending for it to be a 6x4 with a rear inter Axle locking valve.

A: A 6x6 configuration is acceptable.

Q: Since the intention listed in the spec is for some Fire Service support do you need a front discharge and a rear discharge on the manifolds with ball valves and is there a need to have a rear dump for filling Fire Service portable tanks?

A: Front Discharge and Rear Discharge on manifolds is not required as long as the Water Truck has a top mounted water cannon. Rear dump is not required.

Q: These Types of units typically have a rear hose Reel at the back of the unit as well.

A: Rear hose reel is not required.
